Job Vacancy: Director of Athletics (Swimming & Diving, Competitive Cheer, and Softball)

The FHSAA is seeking a full-time administrator for Athletic Services. Duties include coordination of assigned athletic programs which currently include swimming & diving, competitive cheer and softball, and oversight for state championship events. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Requirements include Bachelor’s Degree in sports management, recreation, administration or related field and three years experience in supervising athletics or officiating. School level experience as an Athletic director and/or school administrator is preferred. Candidate must be a self-starter with demonstrated ability to organize, lead and manage athletic programs and personnel.

Candidate must have working knowledge of secondary school athletic program management and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively. See job description for additional details.

Job Description

QUALIFICATONS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree with major course work in sports management, recreation, administration, or related field from an accredited educational institution. Masters Degree is preferred.
  1. A minimum of three (3) years athletic supervisory and/or officiating work experience.
  1. Experience working in a school or university setting preferred.
  1. School athletic director and school administrative experience preferred.

Demonstrated ability to organize athletic programs and budget. Demonstrated leadership ability. Skill in personnel management, supervision and conflict resolution. JOB GOAL

To provide leadership that results in efficient athletic operations for providing services to and monitoring of member schools.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Coordinate all athletic operations for assigned sports
  2. Coordinate all non-sport specific areas of assignment such as sanctioning process, drops and adds of sports, Officials training, chairing various committees
  3. Serve as the state rules interpreter for assigned sports
  4. Plan and present FHSAA and NFHS rules presentations to coaches and officials
  5. Record all District/Section Planning Meeting information for assigned sports on website
  6. Coordinate classifications and district/section assignments
  7. Coordinate and attend State Series contests in assigned sports
  8. Write requests for proposals for state series venues in assigned sports
  9. Assist in negotiations and contracting of venues for state championship events
  10. Assist in updating of Officials Guidebooks in assigned sports
  11. Assist with annual officials leadership meeting
  12. Communicate contest conditions with member schools for state series events
  13. Assist the development, adoption, and implementation of sports policies
  14. Host exam developers and create final officials exams for assigned sports
  15. Assign all field clinic evaluators for assigned sports
  16. Secure recommendations from Officials Association for State Series Assignments
  17. Notify host schools of assigned officials and their required payment for each round
  18. Secure the proper number of awards, and equipment for each event hosted
  19. Secure all tournament personnel and hotel accommodations for each event hosted
  20. Conduct pre-game conference of officials for assigned sports
  21. Coordinate FHSAA/NFHS Coaches Awards Program for assigned sports
  22. Coordinate and supervise intern programs for senior interns and practicum students
  23. Ensure the Assistant Executive Director for Athletic Services is informed of all matters related to school sports, and officials related matters in assigned sports
  24. Attend Board of Director meetings, prepare agenda packet materials and provide information as requested.
  25. Perform other tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.

Administrative Salaried PositionPay Range: $56,364 Bachelors; $60,310 Masters 250 days worked per year (12 months)
