Classroom Notes for Room 30

Week of September 18-22, 2017

Monday is Day #2 of our five-day specials schedule.

Fundraiser- Our only PTO fundraiser was kicked off on Friday. Each student was to bring the envelope home with information of the fundraiser. Some is sold from a brochure, and Yankee Candles are sold online.

Parent-Teacher Conference Scheduling- Scheduling for the October 10th and 11th Parent-Teacher Conferences should begin on Wednesday, Sept. 20th. I will have some alternate times available. We hope to have 100% participation. Please sign up early for the best choices!

Heartland Film Festival Letter Writing Project- Jan Taylor, retired MGES Kindergarten teacher, will be visiting to talk Melissa Maxwell's class and our class at 12:15 today. She represents the Heartland Film Festival and will be talking to our students about a letter writing project for their guests in October. Heartland Film Festival guests from all over the world will receive gift bags (without jewels from Tiffany’s etc.) as they arrive that will include our students’ letters. Most of the guests are young fledgling movie makers, and they are often overwhelmed by the letters from our students. Mrs. Taylor often gets feedback from the guests, and sometimes the movie makers have returned videos to our students thanking them for their unique welcome to Indianapolis. Sometimes Mrs. Taylor suggests to the students that they make a recommendation for restaurants or something inexpensive to do while in the city. In past years, most guests could only make walking trips to places downtown. Last year, I think most of the Festival was held in venues on the north side.

Math Test Access (EL#2- Subtraction)- The class took a Subtraction Test on Friday. Some students have not finished the test. When all tests are submitted, I will send the result with your child’s answers through your CHILD’s school email account. Also, the students’ work was to be shown on a paper copy that will come home on Monday. The last two questions were not part of the score entered into Skyward. They were worth bonus points. Also, some answers scored as wrong were overridden due to incorrect commas and labels of problems. Labels were to be left off this time.

Math- We have already started our daily math fact tests. Students take a 25-problem test each morning, beginning with addition facts through 12+2.
