Position: School Psychologist

Department: Pupil Services FLSA: Non Exempt

Reports To: Director of Pupil Services

SUMMARY

Provide psycho/educational evaluation, case management, consultation, and written documentation of activities related to the identification, placement, and follow-up of exceptional, thought-to-be-exceptional students.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A. Psychoeducational Diagnosis/Evaluation

·  function as either a member of the multidisciplinary evaluation/reevaluation team to recommend needs for specially designed instruction.

·  function as a consultant to individual educators or other educational teams regarding the educational needs of referred students..

·  provide direct and indirect service to students through school consultation, individual/group counseling and parent support.

·  process individual referrals of individuals referred from District classes, public and non-public schools, community agencies. This includes:

Ø  being available for consultation with parents both prior to and after evaluation, if requested.

Ø  evaluation of the individual student, as appropriate.

Ø  providing a diagnostic interpretation to appropriate school or agency personnel.

Ø  developing appropriate written documentation of the evaluation and related meetings or conferences.

Ø  being available for consultation on the development of an IEP when requested by the agency or school district.

Ø  conducting classroom observations.

B. Act as a case manager for those cases that require more than routine involvement.

Ø  referral for further diagnostic evaluations or consideration by other special education

program personnel

Ø  consultation or coordination of activities to help in determining the appropriate plan of action and the persons who will be responsible

Ø  monitoring case development to assure that proper Due Process procedures are being maintained

Ø  contracting outside agencies and/or professionals to obtain (with appropriate permission) pertinent information and/or records related to an individual case(s)

Ø  to conduct the reevaluation process of exceptional children/students as required by law, and within the guidelines established by the Intermediate Unit

C. Consultation

Ø  serve as a consultant to assigned district classes. classroom management

Ø  serve as consultant to assigned school district personnel as requested for both

regular education and special education components in the district.

D. Counseling (as related to district assignments

Ø  provide individual student/adult counseling as appropriate.

Ø  conduct group sessions with students/adults as appropriate.

Ø  provide informal parental support as appropriate.

Ø  participate in the activities of student assistance program teams as requested.

E. Professional Development

Ø  participate in professional development activities conducted by the district and/or Department of Pupil Services.

Ø  stay abreast of current trends, research, and legal issues, as it relates to role of a school psychologist.

Ø  participate in and/or present in-service programs to school district, community agency, and/or district personnel as appropriate.

Ø  complete a Staff Development Plan in accordance with District’s Staff Development Procedures and to complete the requirements of the Plan.

F. General

Ø  maintain and submit a weekly log which includes a record of evaluations completed, district days of service, and calendar of working days.

Ø  attend and participate in regularly scheduled staff and team meetings.

Ø  complete records and reports to established standards and within required timelines.

Ø  support the Mission of the District and its Strategic Plan.

G. Other duties as may be assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge and Skills: Visual acuity to read reports, correspondence and statistical reports. Auditory acuity to effectively use a telephone system and to listen to people.

Abilities: Must be able to work effectively with many types of students/individuals. Ability to be patient, diplomatic, firm, direct. Maintain composure in stressful situations. Must have excellent cognitive abilities. Ability to read, listen, comprehend, write. Ability to manage budget, work independently and in large and small groups.

Education and Experience: Master’s or Doctorate Degree in Psychology with Pennsylvania Certification as School Psychologist.
