State Treasurer Dan Rutherford to speak at
Deerfield Rotary Club

[Deerfield, Illinois/July 26, 2013] – Dan Rutherford, Illinois State Treasurer, and a Republican candidate for governor, will be the featured speaker Thursday, August 1, at the Deerfield Rotary Club’s regular weekly meeting at the Italian Kitchen, 648 Deerfield Road, Deerfield, Illinois.

Rutherford will be speaking about the Icash program, established in 1999 with the goal of helping Illinois residents through the process of reclaiming money or assets. He will also be speaking about state finances.

Rutherford was elected state treasurer in 2010, on a campaign of fiscal responsibility, streamlining the office and reducing costs. Prior to his election as treasurer, he served 18 years in the Illinois General Assembly, including ten years as a state representative, and eight as a state senator. In 2009, he was appointed assistant Republican leader of the senate.

Born in Pontiac, Rutherford received his bachelor’s degree in business, and served as a chief executive at Service Master before retiring in 2010. In June, he announced his candidacy for governor.

The Deerfield Rotary Club was founded in 1930, and is part of Rotary International, a humanitarian service organization with more than 34,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas. The collective leadership and expertise of Rotary’s 1.2 million members helps Rotarians tackle some of the world’s biggest challenges, locally and globally.

Locally, the Deerfield Rotary Club has sponsors exchanges and scholarships to empower youth, purchases school supplies for children from disadvantaged homes, and takes part in a variety of other community activities. The club sponsors an annual Fourth of July 10K race, and takes part in an service project that provides clean drinking water, education, and economic development for remote villages in the jungles of Guatemala.

Rotary’s top priority since 1988 has been the eradication of polio. Rotary has contributed US$1.2 billion, and its members have logged countless volunteer hours to help immunize more than two billion children in 122 countries. There is no cure for polio, but for as little as 60 cents worth of oral vaccine, a child can be protected from the disease for life. For further information, visit www.endpolionow.org
