Search provide a weekly lunch club at Bishops Court, Tebay Drive, West Denton, Newcastle Upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear, NE5 2XG,every Thursday, for up to 40 older people. We need a cook who has experience of cooking for older people, who could provide a hot, tasty and nutritious two course meal up to 40 members.

Our lunch club is managed by our Lunch links organiser and supported by a team of enthusiastic volunteers. If you are interested in working with a local charity and becoming part of our friendly team, please get in touch.

Search is a small voluntary organisation based in the heart of the west end of Newcastle that works specifically with older people. It is a registered charity (1159907) with a trustee board that includes volunteers and local people.

JOB DESCRIPTION

POST: Lunch Club Cook

Hours:4 hours per week. Every Thursday 9.30am to 1.30pm.

Salary:NJC Point 9£15,375pro rata based on a 37 hour week (£7.99p per hour)

Location: Bishops Court Anchor housing, Tebay Drive, West Denton, Newcastle Upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear, NE5 2XG

Annual leave: 25 days plus bank holidays pro rata

Role Description:

Main Tasks

  • To prepare, cook and serve a home cooked two course meal for up 40 older people
  • Provide for special dietary requirements where necessary
  • Take into account the preferences of individual lunch club members
  • Assist in planning / costing menus in order to provide a balanced nutritious diet, making the best use of available fresh foods.
  • Maintain accurate records of food supplies, and freezer / fridge temperatures
  • Ensure food is stored safely and use by dates are adhered to
  • Assist in menu planning and the ordering of stock
  • Supervise and instruct volunteers in the use of all equipment and hygiene procedures, giving help and guidance where appropriate
  • Ensure all crockery and equipment is cleaned and stored appropriately, and that the overall cleaning of the kitchen area (and, where appropriate, the dining areas) is carried out effectively
  • Ensure statutory food hygiene and Health and Safety standards in the kitchen and dining areas.
  • Report immediately to the Manager, or Person in Charge, any illness of an infectious nature or accident incurred by a resident, colleague, self or another.
  • Maintain and improve professional knowledge and competence.
  • Attend all mandatory training days/courses, on or off site, as and when required.
  • Understand, and ensure the implementation of, Search Health and Safety policy, and Emergency and Fire procedures.
  • Report to the Manager, any faulty appliances, damaged furniture, equipment or any potential hazard.
  • Promote safe working practice in the lunch club.
  • Promote and ensure the good reputation of the lunch club.
  • Ensure that all information of confidential nature gained in the course of duty is not divulged to third parties
  • To carry out any other duties commensurate with the post
