Curriculum Report
Ø There are 5 courses that will be inactivated, Biology 104, Molecular Biology Laboratory; Biotechnology 1, Basic Techniques of Biological Technology; Biotechnology 2, Advanced Techniques of Biological Technology; History of Science 11, Introduction to the History of Western Science; and Physics 13, Quantitative Aspects of Elementary Physics.
SLO Report – Jim Noyes
Ø This semester faculty will be asked to submit SLO reports in Curriunet and an electronic copy; a hard copy is required. Assessment reports are due May 3, 2013 before the Accreditation team visits. J. Noyes explained how to submit reports.
ACCJC Institution Set Standards
Ø A handout of ECC Methodology for ACCJC Institution-Set Standards was distributed and discussed.
Safety/Facilities
Ø J. Bellemin mentioned that the door stops are gone, she was told that it’s illegal to prop doors open, according to a fire code.
Ø The planetarium is either too hot or too cold. Jean asked faculty to keep a log of the temperatures in the planetarium and to call the division office to have a work order submitted.
Computer Labs/Printers
Ø Students are not allowed in the computer labs without an instructor present. If paper or other supplies are needed, students should ask faculty.
Ø Club advisors need to be present during club meetings.
Research Papers for English department
Ø Jean asked faculty to submit samples of essays and research papers to her for Elise Geraghty, the Associate Dean of the English department, she requested these for a project concerning writing assignments across campus to learn what assignments students are given in classes outside of the English department with the goal of assuring the students are prepared with a variety of skills when they complete English 1A.
Asilomar workshop
Ø After spring break, August 3 – 8, 2013, there will be a workshop, Stem in the field: Designing Interdisciplinary Curricula” being held at Asilomar State park in Pacific Grove, CA., there will be various activities, it’s free and attendees will be issued a stipend for attending. There will be an informational meeting held on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. in room LS-108, if interested contact Sara DiFiori, her email address is .
Other
Ø A professor is needed to go on the science club field trip, all expenses paid, it’s Tuesday through Saturday, next week, April 9 - 13, 2013.
Ø An advisor is needed for the pre-med club, J. Holliday said that a technician can be a co-advisor.
Ø J. Gard recommended that skateboarders should be stopped and inform them that the fine is $280.00 for those who skateboard on campus.
Ø It was mentioned that if someone gets stuck in an elevator on campus, campus police are not allowed to help or they will get fined $70,000, the elevator company will have to be called to come out.
Ø Classes are being added for summer, 2013 and fall, 2013; an anatomy 32, chemistry 4, chemistry 21A, and two physics classes.
Ø There will be a retirement dinner for Les Scharlin on Monday, April 8, 2013. Jean has the cards and she is collecting money for a gift for those who would like to donate.
Ø Chemistry 1A is not listed in the Summer 2013 schedule, Jean asked faculty to announce in their Chemistry 4 class that Chemistry 1A is being offered during the Summer.
