Brief Therapies Manager

WPF Therapy is one of the largest third sector organisations providing talking therapies, and professional trainings. WPF currently employs approximately 100 staff across the organisation. Over 45 clinically qualified volunteers also work in our clinical services and we provide 120 + clinical placements.

350 + clients are seen every week at the London Bridge centre where WPF Therapy offers CBT, short-term psychodynamic therapy, DIT, longer term psychodynamic and psychoanalytic therapy and group therapy.

Each year WPF Therapy delivers training to more than 1000 people in counselling skills, psychodynamic and psychoanalytic psychotherapy, supervision, group analytic therapy, CBT, and professional development short courses and workshops.

WPF Therapy is an organisational member of BACP, UKCP and BPC and its courses are accredited and validated by BACP, UKCP, BPC and the University of Roehampton. Staff and therapists in training must comply with the ethical requirements of these organisations. WPF Therapy has its own Code of Ethics and Practice and complaints and appeals procedures with which all staff should be familiar.

The main orientation of WPF Therapy is psychodynamic / psychoanalytic and this is reflected in the majority of the training programmes offered. All staff need to be in sympathy with psychodynamic and psychoanalytic approaches.

WPF Therapy also runs a Time Limited Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Clinic, a CBT Clinic and Time Limited Trauma-Focused Clinic.

The Senior Management Team consists of the CEO and three Directors. The CEO is accountable to the Board of Trustees and the Directors are accountable to the CEO.

The Director of Clinic is supported by two Clinical Managers and two Clinical Consultants as well as a small Clinical Administration team.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Overall Purpose

The Brief Therapies Manager will provide leadership to the Brief Therapies Team, being responsible for the operation and development of brief therapies, including Time-Limited Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Trauma-Focused Therapy. The role includes management of existing contracts, acquisition and development of new contracts and leading the service through a period of growth.

As part of the Clinical Services Management Team and reporting to the Director of Clinic, the post holder will also play a part in the leadership and development of the broader clinical department at WPF Therapy. The Team includes honorary therapists and some trainees as well as professional staff.

ACCOUNTABILITY

The Brief Therapies Lead is accountable to the Director of Clinic.

Duties:

1.  Leadership of the Brief Therapies team and function within WPF Therapy.

2.  Line Management, performance management and development of Brief Therapies Team members.

3.  Ensuring provision of brief therapies, to the highest professional standards.

4.  Demonstrating and encouraging a dynamic, creative approach to the provision and development of brief therapies at WPF Therapy.

5.  Be responsible for monitoring and improving the quality, safety and effectiveness of brief therapies, including through the use of outcome measurement and client feedback.

6.  Managing work flow and preparing service to accept higher volumes of clients.

7.  Leading on the delivery of existing with external partners for the provision of brief therapies and on the development of new contracts.

8.  Chair regular team meetings.

9.  Attend monthly line management with the Director of Clinic and fortnightly Clinical Services Management Team Meetings.

10.  Being jointly responsible for the proper running of the Clinical Department with CSMT colleagues.

11.  Effectively manage casework in accordance with Clinical Services procedures and requirements and flag up issues in a timely manner.

12.  Ensure that client work proceeds in line with WPF Therapy requirements and that line staff complete all institutional requirements as set out in WPF’s Clinical Services Handbook. This requires effective and close management and ensuring issues are highlighted in a timely manner.

13.  Ensure the Director of Clinic is kept informed of all relevant professional matters in relation to therapists and clients and the effective running of the clinic. This includes ensuring time sensitive matters are raised in a timely way.

14.  Participate in research or evaluation procedures undertaken by the organisation as required. This includes providing information as requested.

15.  Undertake continuing professional development, so as to maintain high standards of practice.

16.  Be familiar with and abide by the WPF Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct as well as those Codes of Ethics relevant to personal professional memberships.

17.  Work in accordance with WPF Therapy policy, including the Equalities and Diversity Policy, Safeguarding and Clinical Risk Management (Suicide & Self Harm) Policies.

18.  Other tasks deemed appropriate by the Director of Clinic.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Professional qualifications and experience

1.  Relevant management qualification or equivalent experience.

2.  Experience of leading and developing services in a health or social care setting, ideally within the counselling or psychotherapy sector.

3.  Track record in the delivery of contracts for health, social care or therapy services and of identifying and developing new contract opportunities.

4.  Experience of managing client work-flows and pathways.

5.  Commitment to ongoing professional development.

6.  Experience of performance management in a psychotherapy setting.

7.  Experience of team building and service development.

8.  Experience of improving service quality within a busy, expanding service.

9.  Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary environment and of successful joint working with colleagues from other disciplines.

Work Hours

17.5 hours per week. WPF Therapy is open to clients from 8 AM to 9 PM, Monday to Friday and from 9 AM to 4 PM on Saturdays.

General:

Salary: £36,000 per annum, pro rata. (Actual Salary: £18,000 per anum)
