US History B Chapter 24 Test

Please choose one of the following questions to answer in 6 paragraphs or more. In addition to using the book and notes, please choose one episode from CNN’s The Sixties or CNN’s The Seventies to aid in answering your question. Please note: this means that your question and episode should align. For example, if the question was “Tell me about the race to the moon” you should watch the Space Race episode from The Sixties. Reminder: you may do an extra question for an extra 10 points towards a low grade, or to replace a missing homework assignment. DUE 4/24/17 at 8:10. You may email it if you finish early.

1.  Describe Johnson’s (LBJ’s) civil rights legislation, and discuss the rioting that took place either for or against the Civil Rights Movement. In addition, what role did his continuation of Civil Rights play in his Great Society? What reform was set in place to create the Great Society and how did it work for the nation? (Suggested episodes: The Long March to Freedom, Times Are A-Changing)

2.  Outline the causes, course, contestants, and consequences of the Vietnam War. How does it compare to earlier American Wars? What role did TV and the counterculture age (under 30) have on the war and the home front? (Suggested episode: The War in Vietnam)

3.  Identify the continuity and change in the following aspects of American life during the 60: politics, economics, society, and the arts. Interpret the social upheaval of the 60s from a balanced biblical perspective. (Suggested episode: Times Are A-Changing)

4.  Identify Nixon’s shift in foreign policy during the Cold War and evaluate the wisdom of his decisions. Give evidence from this period that democracy faces dangerous enemies from within as well as from without. (Suggested episode: The World on the Brink, The United States vs. Nixon, Peace with Honor)

5.  Extra credit option only: Tell me about the Race to the Moon between the United States and Russia. Who were some of the main contestants? Who won? (Suggested episode: The Space Race)
