BIENVENIDOS A LA CLASE DE ESPAÑOL

Señora La Barge (Aula 133 / 129)

2016 – 2017

571-252-2300

I am looking forward to a wonderful year. Below are the classroom policies and rules that will be vital to a successful year. Please keep your copy of these rules in the front of your notebook for future reference and familiarize yourself with them.

MATERIALS

LCPS provides you with the textbook, Realidades. You can keep the book I issue to you at home as there will also be a class set of books in my room. I will give you a photocopy of each workbook unit at the beginning of each unit. The workbook is also accessible through my website. If you lose your book it is your responsibility to pay for the replacement.

You will also need the following materials:

·  Blue/back pen and pencil with eraser (for classwork and homework)

·  3-ring binder and college-ruled lined paper (for notes, classwork, warm ups etc.)

Wish list:

·  Tissues

·  White board markers

PLEASE BE PREPARED FOR EVERY CLASS WITH YOUR MATERIALS.

GRADES

Your grade will be based on homework, class participation and assessments.

Homework will be graded for completion and effort. To receive full credit, the assignment must be 100% complete, done according to directions. LATE WORK IS NOT ACCEPTED*.

From time to time, homework will be collected and graded for accuracy.

*Each quarter you will be given one homework pass. This pass allows you to turn in the COMPLETED assignment the very next morning before 9am. Staple the pass to the assignment and be sure your name is on the assignment to receive credit.

If you are in school for any part of the day your assignment is due. If you come late or leave early, be sure to turn in your assignment.

The purpose of homework is to practice what we’ve done in class. To be successful in learning a foreign language you must practice.

DAILY AGENDA

The daily agenda provides a list of activities as goals for completion for each class day. Students are required to file their agenda into their binder at the end of each class. Students who are absent from class are required to get the homework from the calendar on my webpage: http://www.lcps.org/Domain/20735

MAKE-UP POLICY

If you are present the day a test is announced you are responsible for taking it on the regularly scheduled day. A one-day absence does not exempt you from taking a test or quiz scheduled for the next class. You may make up work during your study hall. See me for a pass. If a student has an extended absence he/she has one week to make up a missed exam or quiz. Failure to do so will result in a zero.

EARLY RELEASES/LATE ARRIVALS/FIELD TRIPS

If you are in school for any part of the day, you need to stop by and find out what you missed. If you know you are going on a field trip, please see me about getting the work ahead of time.

PHOENIX/WEBSITE/REMIND

Phoenix is a wonderful way for me to communicate your child’s progress in my class. I strongly encourage you to check it on a regular basis and discuss your child’s performance with him or her. Homework will be posted on my website as well as stated on the student’s daily agenda. I will also give students the code for Remind so they can sign up for reminders. The code will also be posted on my website.

CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS

·  All school rules are, of course, in effect at all times.

·  Discourteous behavior is not tolerated.

·  Be in your seat before the bell rings.

·  I will dismiss you, not the bell. Please remain in your seat until I do so.

·  Be prepared with all of your materials: pens, book, workbook, and agenda.

·  No food, drink or candy is permitted with the exception of water in water bottles with a top.

EXTRA HELP/PRACTICE

·  NHS tutors are available. See the BRHS website for more details.

·  Use www.phschool.com or www.linguazone.com for more practice.

BYOT

You are welcome to bring a laptop, tablet or smart phone for use when we do a class activity and technology is needed. Cell phones and electronic devices are NOT to be used for texting or using social media. They must be turned off (not on vibrate) and in your backpack when we are not using them for an activity. If your parents need to reach you, they can call the main office. Texting is essentially modern day note writing. It distracts from learning. Students are permitted to use their electronic devices for texting etc. during the change of classes and during lunch, not in my class.

HONOR CODE

Broad Run’s Honor Code states: “I pledge on my honor that I have not given or received any unauthorized assistance on this assignment/examination”. Please be aware that the use of translation devices is cheating.

Dear parents,

I welcome your student to Spanish I. I can be reached via phone at school at 571-252-2300 or via email at . Together we will make this a productive, successful and enjoyable year.

Please keep the top portion of this sheet for yourself for future reference. Please sign the bottom section and have your student return it to me the next time class meets.

Thank you,

Sra. Michelle La Barge
