What is the Working in Disability Support- online induction program?

This program is ideally for new support staff (and volunteers) to the Disability Support Sector.

The main content of the course is available on the web at; www.disabworkersguide.com.au

The course includes TWO MAIN COMPONENTS:

-  The Online Content AND

-  Workplace Learning Tasks

The Workplace Learning Tasks are included in the workbook that is displayed on the front page of the website.

A series of learning tasks are included that will provide your staff member/volunteer with the opportunity to practice the skills and knowledge covered in the website AND learn more about their own workplace/organization.

What do I need to do?

Issue your staff member/volunteer with a username and password. See Appendix 1.

Discuss the time frame you would like the course completed in and establish a regular meeting time to review progress, address any issues and answer questions.

It may be helpful to access the learning site and download the Learner Guide to help them get started.

Assessment

We have mapped this induction course to two units of competency from the

Certificate III in Disability Work CHC30302.

These are;

CHCDIS1C Orientation to Disability Work

CHCDIS2C Maintain an Environment Designed to Empower People with Disabilities
If your staff member/volunteer does not already have this qualification this course will give them a GREAT start!

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE WORKPLACE LEARNING TASKS NEED TO BE COMPLETED TO ACHIEVE THESE UNITS.

Please discuss this opportunity with your staff member. If this is the pathway they wish to take then you will need to make contact with an appropriate Registered Training Organisation.

Instruction Manual

Important things your learner will need:

1.  Headset – there is a number of videos and the learner may need to adjust the volume at different times and also so that others are not disturbed.

2.  Enrolment Key – the enrolment key is the word; support.

3.  Username and password – to log in

STEP ONE- creating your learner’s username and password

We strongly recommend that you create the learner’s account so that you can manage their commencement and progress through the course.
