POSITION: Financial Aid Specialist
- This is a full-time position.
- Employment is with Chattahoochee Technical College and not with an individual campus. All employees are subject to work relocation based on college needs.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Under supervision by the Director of Financial Aid and Financial Aid Coordinator, and in close communication with the Student Financial Services Unit as a whole, this position provides information to prospective and enrolled students concerning state and federal financial assistanceand maintains current knowledge of student financial assistance programs and laws governing such. The Financial Aid Specialist will also be responsible for assisting the Financial Aid Office with the federal student aid review of NSLDS flags, subsequent ISIR’s, Pell, and other federal related issues. Applicant must be highly customer service oriented and able to function well with a team.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- A bachelor’s degree in a course of study related to the occupational field from a regionally or nationally accredited college is required,OR an associate’s degree in a course of study with 2 years of paid work experience in Financial Aid,OR 4 years of paid work experience in Financial Aid.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (in addition to the minimum qualifications)
- Experience working in a financial aid office at an institution of higher education with specific experience in the federal student aid processes and policies, NSLDS flags, and verification.

Financial Aid Specialist FIN/38
Finance FLSA Status: Exempt
JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for performingprofessional and administrative duties associated with the delivery of student financial aid services.
MAJOR DUTIES
- Collects and reviews financial aid applications to determine completeness and eligibility.
- Determines eligibility and awards financial aid applicants using various software packages including BANNER; processes applications and corrections, tracks documents, completes the verification process, generates tracking and award notifications.
- Requests additional information for incomplete or inconsistent applications to perform accurate needs analysis.
- Counsels and advises students and parents concerning financial aid and VA opportunities and application processes.
- Monitors SAP status for students.
- Assists with front-counter duties as needed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
- Knowledge of student financial aid processes and procedures.
- Knowledge of college, state and federal student financial aid programs, regulations and guidelines.
- Knowledge of relevant federal and state regulations.
- Skill in the operation of computers and job related software programs.
- Skill in decision making and problem solving.
- Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Student Financial Aid Coordinatorassigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include Chattahoochee Technical College policies and procedures, and relevant state and federal regulations. These guidelines require judgment, selection and interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
- The work consists of varied specialized duties. Strict regulations and the need for accuracy contribute to the complexity of the position.
- The purpose of this position is to provide specialized support for the student financial aid process. Success in the position contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of financial aid processes.

- Contacts are typically with students, staff, faculty, administrators, and members of the general public.
- Contacts are typically to resolve problems, to provide services, or to give or exchange information.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light objects.
- The work is typically performed in an office.
