A New Spirit for St. Mark’s
Thanks to the good work of so many of you on Saturday, June 18th and the Vestry on June 28th, we are ready to move to the next steps in the Priest-in-Charge process. After reviewing the work, there are four Workgroups that can be formed which meet the expectations we together have set for the future of
St. Mark’s.
There are SMART goals instructions to guide the work of each Workgroup:
- Specific – target a specific area for improvement
- Measurable – quantify or at least suggest an indicator of progress
- Assignable – specify who will do it
- Realistic – state what results can realistically be achieved, given available resources’
- Time-related – specify when the result(s) can be achieved
So those are the initial assignments for each Workgroup. What are my choices, you ask! Here are the four Workgroups.
- Membership/Incorporation How do we foster a feeling of “belonging” and spirituality?
- Financial Responsibility/StabilityStewardship. evaluation of building use, endowment
- New Ways to Serve/Greater Involvement with Community of New BritainCurrent ministries – do they encourage self-reliance &empowerment? Optimizing our location, noting changing demographics
- Worship/Liturgy/Music
Does it serve current members and attract newcomers? It is welcoming and easy to follow? Is it diverse?
Those are just some of the highlights of the Saturday discussion. We still have the notes and can make them available. Consider which one of the Workgroups you would like to be a part of. Vestry will be organizing itself when it meets Aug 9th. Watch for further announcements and meeting dates. Stay involved! Together and with prayer, lots of prayer, we can meet these challenges!

Thank you
Dear St. Mark’s Parish,
I received your beautiful note offering prayers for me and all of our police officers. Thank you so very much for doing this. This is a beautiful thing that you are doing for our police department. The issues being faced by our officers and community in recent years and especially in recent weeks has contributed substantially in making an already difficult job, even more of a challenge. We will stay the course here in New Britain and will do all we can to serve our community with professionalism. We commit building and improving our partnerships with the community we are so committed to serving. The letters to our individual officers are coming in. Each letter is putting a huge smile on our officer’s faces.
Prayers and your kind words of support for our officers are so appreciated and I am confident helps make a real difference. Thank you for all you do for the community and God Bless you.
James P. Wardwell, Chief of Police.
