Jurisdiction / Question(s)
It is appropriate that on the last day of work for this year I was placed on a new committee to look into obtaining a check verification system. This is the system which verifies a check amount prior to processing the payment and document.
Do any of you have this type of system in place already?
If so, can you share the vendor?
We will be putting out an RFI by the end of January, but would like to do some research on what is available.
Any input would help.

Arizona / Arizona, too, has more on the chargeback issue than we do bad checks. Our accountant spends a lot of time trying to dispute the chargeback. I don't know of any solution to that problem.Arizona does not currently do this type of check verification, and we do not, at this time, have plans to implement it.
Arkansas
California

Florida / Florida does not use a check verification system.
Georgia / Georgia has that issue as well. We need to figure out something on chargebacks.
Hawaii / Hawaii does not have check verification system.
Idaho
Illinois
Indiana / Indiana does not have it. I would be interested in learning about your findings. We have considered this, but have yet to do a deep dive into the details.
Iowa
Kansas / When we looked into this, the costs seemed prohibitive. Instead, we are working on a system that will securely hold checking account information and allow the customer to select the same payment type each time they pay for a service. We have found a good portion of our bad checks are related to fat fingers instead of insufficient funds.
Kentucky
Louisiana
Maine
Maryland
Massachusetts
Michigan
Minnesota / Minnesota does not have a check verification system.
Mississippi
Missouri
Montana / Montana does not have a check validation in place.
Nebraska
Nevada / At this time, Nevada does not verify checks prior to processing.
New Hampshire
New Jersey
New Mexico
New York / NY does not have a check verification system. We actually have a bigger problem with credit card chargebacks. Some involve stolen credit cards and others the filer denies making the filing.
North Carolina
North Dakota
Ohio / Ohio does not have a check verification system, but as NY and Arizona report, we have more of a problem with credit card chargebacks, so that is the issue we are looking to address.
Oklahoma
Oregon
Pennsylvania
Rhode Island / Rhode Island doesn't currently have a system for check verification.
South Carolina
South Dakota
Tennessee
Texas / Although most of our transactions are paid for by check, Texas does not have a check verification system in place.
Utah / Utah does not have this in place
Vermont
Virginia
Washington
West Virginia
Wisconsin
Wyoming

Additional comments:

NOVA SCOTIA:

We do not have check verification, and have not seen this chargeback issue in Nova Scotia (yet).
