Volunteer Coordinator

Responsible to: Chief Executive.

Location: Rookwood Hospital, Llandaff, Cardiff.

Hours: 22.5 hours per week, may include some evening and weekend work. Flexible working and potential for term time working will be considered.

Annual Leave: 22 days per annum plus Public Holidays, rising to 25 full time equivalent after 3 years’ service.

Pay Scale: £19,000 - £22,000 per annum (pro-rata) (depending on experience).

Term: Fixed term until 31st March 2019 (with the potential to extend subject to funding).

Headway Cardiff and South East Wales is a registered charity providing support and services to people affected by acquired brain injury.

The post holder will be responsible for coordinating the volunteer programme.

Regular supervision will be provided in addition to training.

This post is subject to an Enhanced (Unregulated) DBS check.

Main duties and responsibilities

Recruitment

·  Develop partnerships with potential referral sources, including volunteer bureau and colleges and universities.

·  Publicise volunteering opportunities using a variety of strategies, including publications, events and partnership working.

·  Process applications from prospective volunteers.

·  Interview, assess, select and appoint volunteers.

·  Apply for and monitor DBS & reference checks for all volunteers.

·  Identify and recruit service users and carers who have the potential to become volunteers within our own projects.

Training

·  Develop and deliver a comprehensive induction and training programme for volunteers.

·  Source relevant external training for volunteers.

·  Develop and deliver a tailored training programme for volunteers with acquired brain injury or their family members.

Support

·  Facilitate regular group Volunteer feedback sessions.

·  Ensure volunteer contribution is rewarded and recognised.

·  Provide volunteer references in line with organisational policy.

Development

·  In consultation with other members of Headway Cardiff and South East Wales, develop new volunteer projects.

·  Maintain and renew the Investing in Volunteers standards and award.

Administration

·  Carry out day to day administration tasks and be self-sufficient in this area.

·  Monitor and evaluate volunteer projects, maintaining records and statistics and prepare reports where required.

·  Maintain up to date and accurate volunteer record within the CRM system.

·  Receive and authorise volunteer expenses claims.

·  Update and maintain the Volunteer Handbook.

·  Write policies and procedures relating to volunteering.

·  Maintain and update the Volunteering section of the website.

·  Provide regular updates via Social Media.

·  Maintain up to date records on all aspects of your work including; petty cash expenditure, volunteer expenses, health and safety checks, sickness, annual leave and volunteer supervision.

·  Supporting social and fundraising activities.

·  Support the service in raising awareness concerning issues of acquired brain injury.

Person Specification

Essential / Desirable
Qualifications and training / GCSE English Literature or Language and Maths grade C or above (or equivalent).
A-Levels or equivalent qualifications or experience. / Graduate calibre.
The Art of Managing Volunteers qualification.
Full, current driving licence and use of a car which is insured for business use.
