INITIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR AUSTRALIAN VISITOR/BUSINESS VISAS
If you are not eligible for an Electronic Travel Authority (ETA), please submit the following documents in order to APPLY for a visitor or business visa to Australia. If you are sending your application to the Embassy by mail or courier, mark your entire application to the attention of the visa section.
1. For visitor visas - a completed form 48R, Application to visit Australia for tourism or other recreational activities. For business visas, a completed form 456, Application for a business (short stay) visa (for a stay of up to 3 months. Both forms can be downloaded from the DIMIA website, from http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/forms_num1.htm .
2. One (1) recent photograph attached to the application form.
3. Your valid passport(s) or travel document(s). Please ensure that you have extra pages in your passport or travel document and that your passport is valid for 6 -12 months prior to the expiry date.
The visa processing fee of USD80.00 at time of lodgement. This may change. You should check with the Australian Embassy when applying. Attach the relevant fee, payable to the Australian Embassy in form of postal money order, bank cheque or company cheque. Personal cheques will NOT be accepted. (Cash accepted if paying at counter).
4. Evidence of funds in the form of a recent bank statement or a letter from your bank or financial institution confirming the amount of funds under your personal control. The letter must identify the account holder, the account number and average balance for the past year.
5. Evidence of your immigration status to the U.S in your passport, i.e., Green Card, I-94, I-APP66, I-20, 1-512 etc. Please note that citizens of the United States of America should apply for an Electronic Travel Authority for visits of up to three months.
6. A letter from your employer/school stating that leave of absence has been granted and that you will be returning to your current job etc. (only for 3rd National country).
7. If you are travelling with a minor child, and one or more parents are not travelling with the child, a Notarised letter of consent from the non-travelling parent(s).
8. If you are 70 years old or more, a Letter of Fitness to Travel from your Doctor, and evidence of Medical/ Travel Insurance covering your entire stay in Australia.
9. If you have indicated that you are visiting Australia for business purposes (i.e., conference, workshop or training) please forward a Company letter briefly detailing the business you will be conducting during your stay.
10. We recommend you send prepaid DHL waybill or sufficient funds payable to DHL for the return of your passport, otherwise, passport will be returned by US POSTAL SERVICE.
11. A contact name (and relationship), address and telephone number in Australia. Supporting letter from an Australian citizen is required with copy of permanent visa or Australian passport.
12. Length of processing of tourist visa for Third National countries is about 3 weeks to a month could take longer. (Since October 2007).
Note: All Third National country applications will be fully assessed and decided by Suva Office.
