Agency for Science, Innovation and Technology (MITA) is the main governmental institution, responsible for implementation of innovation and research policy in Lithuania. MITA was established with the aim to foster the cooperation of business and science and to create a favorable environment for entrepreneurship, innovation and research in Lithuania. Also, MITA fulfills an important task in strengthening the public-private partnership and clustering processes in a country, developing the innovation management skills, especially in research commercialization and technology transfer.

The main activities of MITA are:

  • funding of R&D projects or joint research projects of business and science;
  • developing the innovation management skills, especially in research commercialization and technology transfer;
  • coordinating of pre-commercial procurement;
  • promoting protection of intellectual property rights by consultation, trainings and funding;
  • consulting on issues regarding applied research, innovation and technology;
  • strengthening the clusterization processes and public-private partnership;
  • promoting participation in international R&D and innovation programmes and initiatives;
  • implementation innovation policy in Lithuania
