Subject: 2012-13 Full Time Faculty Overload Pay Guidelines and Salary Grid

The Salary Structure for Full Time Faculty overloads has changed for the 2012-2013 fiscal year. In December 2010 the Faculty Assembly of the University of La Verne amended the University’s faculty promotion document, PEPPIT (Professional Ethics & Personnel Policies Including Tenure), for both full-time and adjunct faculty. Effective July 1, 2011, there are four part-time faculty ranks: Adjunct Instructor, Adjunct Professor, Senior Adjunct Instructor, and Senior Adjunct Professor.

All Full Time Faculty members teaching overloads, and summer teaching services, on or off campus are paid $3,350.00.

The new pay rates will begin with the Fall 2012 Semester.

You may also contact the Human Resources Department to request a copy.

*Please remember, if deadlines are missed it could delay the processing of the contract and therefore delay the payment. In order to receive full salary 7 students must be registered. Classes with fewer than 7 students will be paid at the Directed Study rate. The Department Chair or the Hiring Dean is responsible for notifying the Human Resources Department, in a timely manner, after the beginning of the semester, of any classes that have less than 7 students enrolled, or any classes that have been canceled to ensure that the correct contract is cancelled and compensation is adjusted accordingly. The Class Cancellation/Change form can be found at the Human Resources Department’s website at:

http://sites.laverne.edu/hr/files/2011/07/Class-Cancellation-Change-Form-11-12.doc.

POLICY: Each faculty member may teach a maximum of two overload courses in an academic year per term/semester with the permission of their Department Chair and Dean.

Under certain circumstances a contract may need to be revised. Send a copy of the contract clearly marked as Revised to the Human Resources Department with the corrected information. Also, indicate the date of the change so that we know which contract is the most current. Make sure the instructor is aware of any changes that occur.

If an exception in compensation is requested, the Chair must obtain the approval of the Dean by the deadlines indicated to avoid delays in processing contracts.

Forms that are incomplete, inaccurate, or do not include a cover letter WILL BE RETURNED to the department for correction. A sample cover letter can be found at: http://sites.laverne.edu/hr/hr-forms/, then scroll down to Additional Compensation and click on Cover Letter for Contracts and Pay Advices, or you may contact the Human Resources Department to request a copy. Any forms received after the deadline, (including forms returned for corrections) will not be processed until the next pay period.

Thank you for your help in processing Faculty Overload Pay in a timely manner.
