LEARNING LAB COORDINATOR/TRANSFER SPECIALIST
JOB DESCRIPTION
A.Position Summary
The Learning Lab Coordinator/Transfer Specialist is responsible for planning, organizing, and managing the developmental education learning lab and for providing academic, vocational, financial, personal, and transfer assistance to all participants in the Student Support Services Program.
B.Organizational Reporting
The Learning Lab Coordinator/Transfer Specialist is responsible to the Director of TRIO Programs and the Associate Dean of Instruction.
C.Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities
At a minimum, the essential functions of the Learning Lab Coordinator/ Transfer Specialist are:
- to plan, organize, manage, and evaluate the developmental education learning lab;
- to coordinate tutorial services for students on the Brewton and Atmore campuses;
- to facilitate use of computer software for developmental courses;
- to assist with student testing, advising, and placement in developmental courses;
- to maintain convenient lab hours for students;
- to assist in the selection, acquisition, and organization of learning lab resources;
- to recruit, train, and supervise lab assistants;
- to locate tutors and coordinate their schedules with those of students needing assistance;
- to maintain tutors' hours and paperwork and reports on students;
- to track progress of developmental students throughout the semester and keep instructors informed of the students' progress;
- to serve on department, divisional, and institutional committees as assigned;
- to provide academic, vocational, financial, personal, and transfer assistance to sophomore-level program participants;
- to assist students with registration and COMPASS testing;
- to provide one-on-one tutoring, on an as-needed basis;
- to provide assistance to students in finalizing career choice by exploring career options via discussion, workshops, and assessments;
- to provide exposure to cultural events (may require overnight travel);
- to travel with sophomore-level program participants to area four-year institutions for campus visits (may require overnight travel);
- to establish effective working relationships with four-year institution representatives to assist transfer participants in the transition from a two-year to a four-year institution;
- to maintain excellent records;
- to assist in matters pertaining to retention;
- to track progress of former SSS program participants; and
- to work cooperatively with the Coordinator of Development Studies, the Student Support Services staff, and the Associate Dean of Instruction to ensure that goals and objectives of the programs are met.
D.Other Responsibilities
Assuming other work-related responsibilities as assigned by the Director of TRIO Programs or the Associate Dean of Instruction or the President or his/her designee.
E.Performance Evaluations
The Learning Lab Coordinator/Transfer Specialist’s job performance will be evaluated annually by the Director of TRIO Programs and the Associate Dean of Instruction.
F.Qualifications
Bachelor’s required. Experience working with academically and economically disadvantaged students required. Computer skills required.

- Ability to perform basic mathematical skills, such as percentages and fractions, etc.
H.Salary Schedule
The salary schedule for this position is based on State Salary Schedule E3.
