Meeting Minutes

December 8, 2016

  1. Call to order

President, Hasna Ridwan, called to order the regular meeting of the BRES PTO at 4:33pm on December 8, 2016 at Bristow Run Elementary School.

  1. Approval of minutes from November meeting

Motion to approve the meeting minutes from November meeting – Motion by Mrs. Relaford and 2nd by Tory Brixius

  1. President’s Time – Sarah Matthews and Hasna Ridwan

a)  PTO provided turkey, ham and mashed potatoes for staff Thanksgiving luncheon

b)  Square One Art will arrive 12/16

  1. Treasurer’s Time – Monica Bellinger Lewis

a)  Booster direct donations up to $365, received 4 corporate donations so far for Boosterthon

b)  $50 from Harris Teeter retail partner, $2200 in orders for Spirit wear (haven’t received invoice yet)

c)  $1166 from SEP after paying teachers and vendors – money will be used to renew Minecraft, scholarships for SEP

  1. Principal’s Time – Mrs. Jeck

a)  New 3rd grade class added

b)  Family Literacy Night – great turnout and fun activities

c)  Planning our STEM night and SOL nights later in the year

d)  Thank you for supporting Mr. Painter at his technology conference and for helping provide food for the teacher’s Thanksgiving luncheon

e)  Giving Tree tags have all been taken, you can still contribute hats, gloves, scarves

  1. Committee Update –

a)  SEP – Megan Rogers

i)  Online registration for spring opens Feb 5, Classes will run Feb 20 to April 17

ii)  Will consider accepting paper registrations with checks through Panther folders but prefer online registration, may offer paper registration during February PTO meeting

iii)  Classes – Performing Panthers, Cheer, Camp Invention, Write Right, Print Right, Dance, Public Speaking, 3 Minecraft (grades 3-5), Possible dance/drum class and Running class

b)  Spirit Wear – Sarah Matthews

i)  Orders should arrive next week, some were able to be fulfilled right away due to the shirts that were pre-ordered by PTO for Family Reading Night

c)  Boosterthon – Sarah Matthews

i)  Sending home corporate sponsor letter with school letter explaining fun run and shirts, deadline is end of February

d)  Box Tops – Sara Correll

i)  Box Tops contest raised $762.50! Pizza party winners were Mrs. Gorham’s 4th grade class (party on Dec 21) and Mrs. Cook’s K class, party not yet scheduled

ii)  Plan to do a friendly Box Tops competition with Glenkirk Elementary in January so keep collecting Box Tops!

e)  Family Game Night – Hasna Ridwan

i)  March 17 from 6-8pm, students can bring their own games, some games will be provided such as Twister, pizza will be available to order

f)  Retail Partners – Denita Relaford

i)  Amazon Smile – select BRES as your charity of choice and we receive 0.5% profit

g)  Room Parents – Katie Eisenhard

i.)  Emails were sent to room parents regarding holiday parties, encouraging room parents to work with their classroom teachers

h)  Square One Art – Sarah Matthews

i)  Orders were submitted and will be here by 12/16
