Murphy High School
Honors Geometry
Mrs. Granger
Welcome to Honors Geometry! The subject matter of this course can be divided into four basic categories: lines and angles, triangles, quadrilaterals and circles, and area and volume. You need to know that Geometry is different from Algebra and must be studied differently. Concepts and theorems are taught then students have to apply them to the practice problems. It is not always as step-by-step as Algebra. You will understand this better once we start working. We will cover most of the textbook during this term; therefore, it is imperative that you keep up daily! If you do get confused, you should get help immediately.
- Grading will consist of the following:
Tests: 60%Quizzes: 30% Classwork/Homework: 10%
- Tests: Tests will be announced in advance. If you are not present on assigned test days, make-up testsare to be taken within 3 days of an excused absence. It is the student’s responsibility to arrange a time with the teacher for make-up tests.
Students who are present on every test day during each quarter will be allowed to replace their lowest test grade with their quarter exam grade.
- Quizzes: You can expect at least two quizzes before each test. Quizzes can be announced or unannounced. I do not give make-up quizzes so the two lowest quiz grades will be dropped each quarter.
- Classwork/Homework: Homework assignments will be collected randomly and can be graded for completion or accuracy. You must show work where work is required. It is the student’s responsibility to turn in make-up work or work collected when absent to the teacher within three days upon return to school. Assignments missed will show a grade of 1 until they are turned in or the three days are up. Grades of 1 will then be changed to zero.
- Required Materials: binder, notebook paper, graph paper, pencils, erasers, scientific calculator
- Suggestions for success in mathematics:
*TAKE NOTES!
*Do the homework that is assigned daily!
*DO NOT wait until the night before the test to study!
*Please take advantage of. It is a valuable resource.
*If mathematics is an area of weakness, find a tutor immediately. Do Not Wait!!!
- Mathematics is not a spectator’s sport! Learning can only take place when you participate and practice.
- There is no such thing as extra credit! So don’t ask. We will have enough “regular credit” for you to earn a passing grade.
