REPORT OF THE PRESIDENT-ELECT

TO THE NSPE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

January 6, 2007

As President-elect, I participated n the following activities since the last Executive Board meeting on September 30, 2006:

  • I participated in Leadership telephone conferences (Miller, Rigsbee, Schwartz) and Executive Committee telephone conferences on a regular basis.
  • October 2, 2006 –I joined President Bob Miller, PE, and President-elect designee Ken Rigsbee, PE in Alexandria, VA, to meet with Executive Director Al Gray to inform him of the BOD vote of no confidence and to discuss termination procedure. On the same day, we met with senior NSPE staff to explain the procedure going forward, and to hold an open and frank forum on the performance and value of staff to NSPE’s ongoing operations.
  • October 2, 2006 – President Miller appointed me to the position of Chairman of the Executive Director Search Team (EDST). The procedures of the EDST are described in detail in a report included in the Agenda Book.
  • October 4, 2006 – I flew to AtlantaGeorgia to address newly licensed Professional Engineers at a reception hosted by the Georgia SPE, returning to New Jersey that night.
  • October 19-21,2006 – I represented NSPE at the Northeast Region Meeting in Saratoga Springs, New York. While there, I participated with Hannah Besanceney in a presentation on State and Chapter Relations, and I addressed the attendees at the Keynote Luncheon on October 20, 2006.
  • November 10, 2006 – I represented NSPE at the EWeek Steering Committee meeting in WashingtonDC. Also in attendance were Past President Kathryn Gray, PE and Arthur Schwartz, CAE, Acting Executive Director.
  • November 15-16, 2006 – I chaired the EDST meeting at the Hampton Inn, Alexandria, during which time we interviewed nine candidates for the position of Executive Director.
  • December 7, 2006 – I attended the Summit Meeting at ASCE Headquarters in Washington, DC, along with President Bob Miller, PE, and Arthur Schwartz, CAE, Acting Executive Director. The meeting was attended by leadership of ABET, ASCE, NCEES, and NSPE. An agenda of topics of mutual interest and alliance issues was discussed.
  • December 7, 2006 – Bob Miller, PE, Arthur Schwartz, CAE, Acting Executive Director, and I attended a dinner meeting with leadership of ASCE to continue discussion of issues of particular interest to both organizations.
  • December 8, 2006 – President Bob Miller, PE, and I met with Larry Jacobs, CAE, MathCounts Executive Director, to discuss areas of mutual interest.
  • December 8, 2006 -President Miller and I met with Mike Clark, Director of

NICET, to discuss business issues related to the ongoing activity of NICET as it relates to NSPE

  • December 8, 2006 - President Miller and I met with Senior NSPE Staff to review progress, and to seek their reaction to the SSEC-Senior Staff Retreat that had occurred the previous weekend.
  • December 10-11 - I chaired the EDST meeting at the Embassy Suites, Alexandria, during which time we interviewed three shortlisted candidates for the position of Executive Director. We unanimously selected Larry Jacobs, CAE for the position.
  • December 12 – I spent the day at Headquarters working on several projects with staff members.
  • December 13-14 – I attended the meeting of the Board of Ethical Review.
