Overall Purpose of Post
The Assistant Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor will support the work of the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor and take an active role in planning, administering and delivering safeguarding training.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities
·  The provision of advice to parishes in regards to safeguarding under the management of the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor.
·  Casework (developing competencies and experience in respect of the provision of advice, risk assessment, attendance agreements, review arrangements and multi-agency work)
·  To deliver good quality training as well as all aspects of the training process from writing courses to the administration of these courses.
·  To have a comprehensive knowledge of resources for support available to individuals or groups affected by abuse as well as responding to disclosures of abuse under the management of the DSA.
·  The provision of expertise to senior leaders in the Diocese in improving its safeguarding culture at every level and in every circumstance
·  To assist in the implementation of the Diocesan Safeguarding Policy (based in the national Church of England’s core policy documents and the House of Bishops safeguarding policy and practice guidance) and associated policies and protocols.
·  To work with local statutory agencies which carry the lead responsibilities for safeguarding investigations as appropriate.
·  To have and maintain through attendance at training courses and personal research a comprehensive knowledge of resources for support available to individuals or groups affected by abuse, including survivors, as well as responding to disclosures of abuse.
·  To work on individual projects as directed by the DSA
·  Some evening and Saturday work will be necessary in order to deliver training across Devon, for which time-off may be taken in lieu.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Attributes / Essential / Desirable
Qualifications and Training / ·  Educated to degree level or equivalent
·  Level 3 training in child or adult protection with ability to demonstrate transferrable knowledge across the client groups
·  / ·  HCPC recognised Social Work Qualification: CQSW, CSS, DipSW.
·  Training to level 4
·  A qualification in training
Experience / ·  Knowledge of current safeguarding practice and thinking
·  Knowledge of the legislative frameworks which promote the safety and wellbeing of children / ·  Up to date knowledge of safeguarding guidance and the management of cases of concern
·  Experience of people disclosing abuse, both present and non recent
·  Ability to develop an understanding of and effective relationships with a large number of diverse stakeholders
Knowledge, skills and abilities / ·  A good level of user competence in Microsoft Office applications and other relevant IT packages
·  Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
·  Proven training and presentation skills
Personal Qualities / ·  Excellent listening skills
·  Literate and numerate, with self-sufficient administrative and organisational skills
·  Ability to work pro-actively and on own initiative
·  Ability to prioritise time and resources and to work to competing deadlines
