Location:Estates Office, University Park working at any and all UK campuses

Reporting to:Senior Capital Projects Officer

The Purpose of the Role:

The management, development and delivery of capital works, alteration and refurbishment projects and schemes from inception to completion and project management of them at all stages.

Main Responsibilities / % time
/ Manage, direct and instruct from project inception, through to project completion external consultants including quantity surveyors, architects, planning co-ordinators and engineers (structural and service) to ensure the professional delivery of capital schemes / 25%
/ Co-ordinate and manage the liaison and interaction with end users/stakeholders and the managing of a multi-disciplinary professional design team to ensure a scheme fit for purpose. Manage the project with internal University groups, including ensuring professional reports, plans, drawings and minutes are provided to project management groups. Manage and direct all stakeholder relationships through the design team with appointed principal contractors, and co-ordinate their relationship with users and other departments / 20%
/ Develop and maintain scheme brief throughout; author and issue variations and oversee all legal requirements, Health & Safety, CDM and user/maintainer needs are met / 15%
/ Produce/procure and provide all documentation (e.g. specifications, drawings, H&S plans, cost plans) relating to all projects and schemes to be current and readily available. Liaise with Estates maintenance sections to ensure successful handover of projects and their continued efficient and effective operation / 15%
/ Obtain, author, check and prepare cost estimates. Draw up and monitor programmes, monitor and control budget and funding levels within projects. Police effectiveness of progress within these ensuring approvals (statutory, legal, policy, CDM and others) / 15%
/ Represent the University and Estate Office to other parties (internally and externally) at all required levels / 5%
/ Undertake and maintain and develop CPDrequirements providing and reflecting current changes and new thinking/policy both professionally and in practice / 2%
/ Undertaking and utilising training and development to enhance working skills and knowledge of self and team, to improve continuously service delivery / 2%
/ Any other duties appropriate to the grade and role of the person appointed / 1%

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience

Essential / Desirable
Qualifications/ Education / Member or probationer of a recognised professional institution, i.e. CIOB, RICS, RIBA with substantial relevant experience / Degree in related subject
Evidence of continued professional development

Training / Ability to prepare specifications for building work
Working knowledge of building contracts, in particular JCT, IBC and MWBC
Understanding of various procurement methods applicable within the construction industry
Working knowledge of CDM legislation.
Production of drawings using CAD (AutoCAD)

Ability to remain calm in difficult situations
Ability to work as part of a team
Excellent attention to detail
