PAY RANGE:GRADE 19 ($60,300.00 - $82,825.60)

JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Air Service/Marketing Manager will be responsible for raising Columbia Metropolitan Airport’s profile locally and nationally. Manager is expected to generate greater awareness of the airport’s impact, services and successes by establishing relationships with key leaders and organizations within the community and throughout the industry; and by developing and executing strategies and campaigns to market the airport to stakeholders, passengers and air service providers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Air Service Development

  • Support air service development by creating marketing strategies for new and upgraded service.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong working relationships with air service consultants, route planners and other key decision makers.
  • Track and analyze data provided by air service consultants to refine marketing strategies route planners and other key decision makers.
  • Assist in preparing and presenting marketing proposals to airlines and potential other aviation service providers.

Public Relations/Media Relations

  • Through various membership and public relations strategies, the manager will work to engage the community to understand and support the airport’s mission via ongoing communication and coordination with various public and private sector organizations. Substantial amounts of time will be spent with outside organizations, neighborhood associations, public interest groups and project consultants.
  • Maintain working relationships with traditional and new media outlets. Includes writing and distributing press releases, making media pitches for airport related services, providing media tours and escorts; and serving as airport spokesperson for airport related news and incidents.
  • Actively engage in industry trade organizations through memberships and meeting participation. May include presentations and speaking engagements.
  • Represent airport at local, regional and national networking and airport-focused events.
  • Monitor and stay current with aviation industry news.
  • Conceptualize fun and inventive campaigns to help support overall airport mission.

Marketing

  • Maintain the airport’s brand standards and brand strategy. Ensure consistency in airport’s message and visual presence by monitoring all airport related visuals and digital/broadcast media content.
  • Track data and analytics to ensure effectiveness of strategies to reach key audiences and demographics.
  • Create marketing collateral and presentations to include airport promotions, strategic planning, economic development, etc.
  • Manage external advertising campaigns. Includes creative development and ad placement.
  • Develop and execute strategies for airport’s digital media/social media presence. Monitor and update the airport website and social media sites including, but not limited to; Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc. Creates and distributes quarterly eNewsletter and other digital communications mediums.

Public Policy

  • Identify and track legislation and public policy issues important to the airport and develop strategies to address them.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with government agencies, commissions, trade associations and chambers of commerce.
  • Maintain a consistent presence in State House Lobby and at key events during state legislative sessions.
  • Provide members of the General Assembly and other key lawmakers with regular airport updates.
  • Cultivate partnerships with advocates and lobbyists as necessary.

Other General Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent customer service to airport staff, tenants, customers and stakeholders.
  • Support Executive Director in efforts to articulate airport’s mission and vision to staff, commission, community leaders and the general public.
  • Partner with tenants as required and support the marketing of their events, promotions and initiatives.
  • Support other departments with events, communications and public outreach needs.
  • Maintain overall department strategy; including budgeting, staffing, and defining short and long-term goals.

QUALIFICATIONS/TRAINING

Solid background/experience in the communications field with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal; strong presentation skills; a working knowledge of social media: online and mobile is a must. The ability to multitask and cope with conflicting time requirements and situations according to multiple deadline demands along with a team player and strong work ethic is essential. Requires a Bachelor’s degree in business management, marketing, public relations or related field supplemented by eight to ten years professional practical experience; or any combination of education and experience which provides the required skills. Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina Driver’s License.

PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be physically able to operate a variety of types of office equipment and machines including a computer, telephone, and general office equipment. Must be physically able to exert up to five pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Position involves mostly sedentary work, but may require walking, standing, stooping, or reaching for brief periods of time. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of five to ten pounds.
