More information can be found on the California Association of School Transportation Official website. If you are interested or have questions call Sergio at 858-496-8729.

Sergio informed us “CASTOWAYS”needsof interesting stories. Articles are welcome from any member. Contact Sergio with any questions or to submit.

New Business-Vaughn brought up thecontinuation of the Instructors web site. It has been free site but now there would be a $4.95 monthly charge. We are looking for input from the instructors on what they think about maintaining the site and if we could pay for it out of the treasury.

Kevin informed us not many hits from instructors were recorded checking out the site. Last year the CASTO web site did have a link to the Instructors web site. It was asked if a page for the instructor’s information could be added on the CASTO web site. This is possible but it needs to be presented and approved at the CASTO meeting.

Most of Instructors present felt the information we get at Instructors council and atthe CASTO web site is sufficient. The e-mails we send out with the information in meeting minuets, and commutating among ourselves seem to keep everyone informed.

Susie Reese said what ismore important is having phone numbers of all the Instructors.

An instructor’s web site would need someone dedicated to keeping it updated and current. It will be discussed at our November meeting. Bring your ideas.

Susie asked if Steve had heard about the new Bill that increased the idling fine from $100 to $300 dollars. He said it has not gone into effect yet and the CDE will probably let us know. Usually, they go into effect Jan 1st or July 1st.

Good of the order- Renewal classes

La Mesa-Spring Valley starting Oct 19th thru Nov 2nd, Monday & Wednesdays, 5:00pm to 7:15pm.

Old Business– Susie Reese open with the discussion of placing a school bus stop in front of a driveway. Is it a safe practice? What is the law?

Diane Turner read Vehicle Code 22500. Parking is not allowed in front of a driveway. The exemption for school buses is in section (e) In front of a public or private driveway, except that a bus engaged as a common carrier, schoolbus, or a taxicab may stop to load or unload passengers when authorized by local authorities pursuant to an ordinance.

Sometimes on a busy, crowed street there is no other place to park except in a driveway. Parking is only permitted to load and unload students and should be a short time. Some districts have the curb painted red so their buses have a place to park when loading and unloading.

Susie let us know that she always teaches a new trainee to think about the safety of the students. Are you parking so that someone coming out of the driveway can see the red lights flashing? The safety of the children always is important to think about.

Presentation- was given by Catherine Santos-Reid from Chula Vista Elementary. Not only did she give us some ideas on adding FLAVOR to our in-services. She did a terrific job of getting volunteers for monthly presentations.

Thank you to all those that signed up.
