Multimedia Designer - Job Description
The Multimedia Designer will primarily be responsible for creating, filming, editing and outputting all video production work for public facing output for West Midlands Police
Your work will involve:
· receiving a brief, and an outline of footage and/or a shot list;
· filming all necessary shots as per the brief, including both audio and visual elements;
· assembling all raw footage, for inputting into Final Cut;
· inputting uncut rushes and sound, and synchronising and storing them into files on the computer;
· digitally cutting the files to put together the sequence of the film and deciding what is usable;
· creating a 'rough cut' of the footage and determining the exact cutting for the next and final stages;
· reordering and tweaking the content to ensure the logical sequencing and smooth running of the film/video;
· outputting for external broadcast outlets, YouTube and other social media networks to HD broadcast quality
· archiving work and output files and overall management of our public facing archive (YouTube channel)
Additional tasks may include:
· experimenting with styles and techniques including the design of graphic elements;
· using third-party pre-recorded or pre-filmed footage as part of the process outlined above;
· suggesting or selecting music;
· working with CCTV or similar footage as part of the process outlined above;
· broadcasting live through YouTube or similar
Skills and experience required for this role:
· Highly proficient in Final Cut Pro
· Experience of using Motion and associated applications
· Experience in a live broadcast situation
· Proficient with an archive and job management process
· Good hardware knowledge of modern equipment, both audio and visual
· Experience of working with other editing suites, both desktop and mobile (predominantly iOS) based
· Knowledge of file types, codecs and suggested uses for specific jobs
Any of the following skills would be preferable:
· Knowledge of using online library software systems
· HTML / CSS Knowledge
· Training and documentation writing
As a Multimedia Designer you’ll also be responsible for:
· Providing accurate timing estimates on work.
· Contributing to documentation (instructional, pitch and technical specification)
· Train other non-technical staff.
· Discussing technical solutions and providing innovative new ideas to solutions.
· Maintaining a high awareness of industry issues and trends, particularly in regard to accessibility, usability, and emerging technologies, and keep team members informed as appropriate, with a view to incorporating these in future projects and staying ahead of the market and position yourself and the company as a digital specialist.
· Constantly seeking to develop yourself by learning new technologies and keeping abreast of the markets developments.
