Members are asked to consider the Phase 2 proposal for the offering of a new course from the Faculty of Arts, Business, Law and Education. Members are encouraged to consider the proposal in light of the Phase 2 Curriculum Development Criteria and the University Policy on: Courses – Postgraduate Coursework.

The Chair recommends that the Curriculum Committee recommend to the Academic Council the Phase 2 proposal for 12270 Graduate Certificate in Fieldwork Practice as set out in the agenda attachments, be approved for offering from 2018.

PART 3 – ITEMS FOR DISCUSSION AND DECISION

5.  new undergraduate curriculum proposal from 2018

Members are asked to consider the Phase 2 proposal for the offering of a new major from the Faculty of Arts, Business, Law and Education. Members are encouraged to consider the proposal in light of the Phase 2 curriculum development criteria and the University Policy on Courses – Undergraduate.

In doing so members are advised that the Phase 2 proposal and associated new unit proposals are not in line with policy as outlined below:

·  There is duplication of unit content in MUSC1742, MUSC2741 and MUSC3741.

·  Owing to the duplicating of content in the units listed above the distinctiveness of the major is compromised. The Policy requires that at least 50% of the units in the major must be distinctive.

·  The assessment weightings for the proposed units are not in line with the policy on Assessment.

An email from Andrew Foote (Head of Vocal Studies) providing a rationale for the proposed major is attached (see attachment F18).

6.  ADJUSTMENTS TO UNIVERSITY POLICY ON Admission – Coursework – REF F79902

Members are asked to consider the following proposed changes relating to the University Policy on Admission – Coursework.

6.1 Recognition of First Family as an Equity Pathway – Ref F79902

Attached (Attachment G) for members’ consideration is a proposal for considering prospective ATAR applicants (with an ATAR of 75.00 to 79.95) who are identified as being the first members of their immediate family as an equity cohort and granting them eligibility status for seeking admission to the University’s undergraduate degree courses.

For discussion and recommendation to the Academic Council for approval.

6.2 Indigenous Direct Pathway to the Doctor of Medicine and Doctor of Dental Medicine – Proposed Name Change of Pathway – Ref F79902

Members will be aware that the Indigenous direct pathways comprising the Rural and Broadway Pathway Programs are designed to provide support for students in high school and at UWA. Attached (Attachment H) for members’ consideration is a proposal to change the name of the pathway from Indigenous Pathway to Broadway Indigenous Direct Pathway.

6.3 Recognition of US-based SAT / ACT Test Scores for Admission to UWA – Ref F79902

Attached (Attachment I) for members’ consideration is a proposal that seeks to admit prospective applicants based on successful completion of SAT (previously known as Scholastic Aptitude Test) / ACT in conjunction with a recognised school leaving qualification. Table 1 in attachment I sets out the entry requirements for those seeking admission based on SAT/ACT and a high school GPA (Grade Point Average) result. The proposed changes to the policy schedules are set out from attachment I9.
