& Technology Camp
Information Sheet /

Registration fee: $475 (financial aid available to those with demonstrated need)

Transportation: Campers are responsible for their own transportation to and from the camp.

Arrival at UNR: A campus map will be provided. Parking is free on Sunday (avoid restricted areas).

Dorm name/location: Argenta Hall (775-784-1219)—1201 N. Virginia St. (see campus map)

Dorm check-in: Argenta Hall office; any time from 3:30-5:00 p.m.

Sunday dinner: Campers should eat dinner on their own before registration on Sunday.

Camper registration: 5:00-5:30, College of Education; see camp schedule for specific room and assigned registration time.

Parent-participation sessions: Parents are invited to attend two camp sessions (Sun. 5:30-7:00 and Fri. 2:15-3:15). The Sunday session will be held in College of Education room 2030, and signs posted on the doors of campers’ assigned classrooms for the week will indicate where to report for the Friday session.

College of Education location: From I-80, go north on Virginia St. (away from the downtown), and turn right into the Whalen Parking Garage just before Lawlor Events Center. The College is a large building, the William J. Raggio building, across from the parking garage on the campus side (just south of the student union and library).

Camper pick-up: Parents will go to the dorm after the parent session held in the College of Education or may go directly to the dorm to pick up their daughters between 3:20 and 4:00 (check out by 4:00).

Friday Parking: For Friday parking before 3:00 p.m., you may park in theWest Stadium Garage (by the football stadium). There is an automated machine that prints one-day parking passes for $5. The machine takes cash or credit cards. Additional parking information will be provided during registration.

Camper supervision: Two to four staff members will work with and supervise each camper group of 30 girls (includes overnight in dorms). Campers will be with one or more staff members at all times.

Housing items provided: sheets, pillow case, pillow, bath towel, face cloth, hand towel, light bedspread, blankets as needed. Campers make their own beds.

Phone/mail/email contact: Campers will be provided free five-minute phone access to contact parents on one or two occasions before or after dinner on Mon., Tues., or Thurs. (Other phone access is available for emergencies only.) Mail or email to campers may be sent to the attention of Heather Crawford-Ferre, Girls Math & Technology Program, College of Education MS 299, University of Nevada, Reno, Reno, NV 89557 or . Camp staff will check physical mail and email daily and will distribute mail accordingly. Please include the camper’s name on the envelope for letters and in the subject heading for email. Campers may also access email if they choose the computer-lab option for late-afternoon spare time available on Mon., Tues., and Thurs., and they may send postage-paid physical mail through camp staff.

•Clothing in layers (typically, days are warm and evenings cool)

•Spending money (fairly minimal—most recreation is included, so this mainly includes snacks or bookstore items such as books and UNR sportswear)

•Leisure-reading material

•Indoor games (e.g., board games or cards)

•Snacks for evenings

•Bathrobe (for going to/from the shower, which may or may not be located within the room)

•Bucket or toiletries bag for taking items to/from the shower

•Soap, shampoo, and other toiletries/personal hygiene items; feminine products

•Hairdryer

•Swimsuit (for water slides and UNR pool, if available; may also want nylon/mesh shorts and/or t-shirt to wear over swimsuit for water slides, and/or a swimsuit cover-up)

•Sandals or other footwear to wear to the shower and at the water park

•Fan (dorms may not be air-conditioned, but this may be checked in advance by emailing camp staff)

•Alarm clock (although we will have a wake-up call at 7:15 a.m.)

•Wristwatch

•Radio (or CD player/CDs, iPod...)

•Key ring for dorm room key in case this is not provided (possibly one that can be worn around the neck or wrist or which can be attached to a belt loop; note that campers will be charged for lost keys)

•Towel for water park (e.g., a beach towel)

•Athletic attire (clothes and shoes for playing various indoor and outdoor sports/games)

•Sunglasses (and perhaps a hat for sun shade)

•Sunscreen

•Camera and accessories

•Umbrella

•Pens/pencils and paper/notebook; three-ring binder (e.g., 1” or 1.5” spine) for handouts in case this is not provided

•Writing materials, including stamps and addresses, for sending physical mail if interested; email addresses needed for any intended communications

•Water bottle (may want to write name on it in permanent marker)

•Season pass to Wild Island Family Adventure Park (and raceway and miniature golf) in Sparks only for campers who already have these—the program will cover entrance fees for those who do not

•Talent show items (CD with desired song to sing or dance to, sheet music, a musical instrument, specific clothing, etc.) if you might choose to participate
