Appendix 2 (Electronic Supplementary Material)

Citation frequency (in %) of food (F) and nonfood (NF) plants for treating 29 individual health conditions in New York City and the Dominican Republic. The number of different food and nonfood species reported for each condition is given in brackets. Chi–square analysis was based on the absolute number of times food versus nonfood plants were cited for each condition in both countries (the same species can be reported multiple times by different participants). N/A means that one of the expected Chi–Square cell values was less than 5, a condition that invalidates the use of the test.
