The successful candidate will have access to relevant in-house training and development opportunities during the course of their placement. There may be ad hoc opportunities to get involved in other areas of work where appropriate.

This internship

This internship will focus upon exploring opportunities for the first aid learning team to increase their delivery of first aid learning to young people in the Beds, Herts and Essex Area. Potential client primary, secondary schools in the public and private sectors need to be identified as well as school programs and curriculum areas where first aid learning could be embedded. An examination of the constraints placed upon schools that inhibit first aid learning and the benefits that promote first aid learning can bring to a school community are to be clearly identified. Relevant data on other first aid training providers training in the area and the packages they offer to schools and young persons groups collated.

The Internship will be based at our Area office in Hertford with some travel to relevant locations.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The key role of the intern is to research and produce a thorough analysis of the opportunities for young person’s First aid learning, which will be used to direct the development of British Red Cross first aid learning youth and school service in Beds, Herts and Essex. This internship would suit someone who can effectively and independently conduct primarily desk-based analysis with some field research.

Key tasks include:

  Undertake research into and collate information about primary, secondary schools in the public and private sectors with key first aid course organiser contacts

  Undertake research into youth forums, clubs and groups to include vulnerable young persons where there may be opportunities for first aid training

  Research the constraints placed upon schools that inhibit first aid learning as well as the benefits that promote first aid learning

  Collate detailed information on other first aid training providers training in the area and the packages they offer to schools and young persons groups

  Ensure the timely completion of tasks

  Producing updates/presentations upon key research to inform first aid learning team

  Producing a final report and evaluation

In addition, the intern will be offered the opportunity to get involved in other areas of work where appropriate such as Everyday first aid educator.

We are looking for someone:

  With experience of undertaking analysis and research

  With organisational and administrative ability, including familiarity with word/excel etc.

  With good written and verbal communication skills

  Able to work independently with minimum supervision

  Able to work to tight deadlines

  Able to make a minimum commitment of two days per week

Practicalities

The exact start date and the days to be worked per week are negotiable depending on individual circumstances. We are however looking for a minimum commitment of 2 days per week for 3 months.

Reasonable travel expenses and lunch will be paid for.
