JOB DESCRIPTION – Junior/Future Black Sticks Physiotherapist

Responsible to: Hockey New Zealand High Performance Director

Key Relationships: High Performance Director, Team Services Manager, Junior/Future Black Sticks Coaches, Support Staff, Coachinf Staff, Academy Squad Members

Contract Term: January 2017 to December 2018. HNZ is entitled to terminate the position of JBS/FBS Physiotherapist at any time.

Remuneration: Costs of travel and accommodation for camps and tours will be covered by HNZ. A daily rate will be paid for camp and tour work

Injury assessment and treatment that can be registered with ACC is encouraged to be invoiced to ACC to supplement the daily rate (work only in New Zealand can be claimed).

Academy Programmes; Defined as programmes involving both Junior and Future Black Sticks.

Main Objective:

1.  To provide physiotherapist support to Academy Programme athletes.

2.  To provide services as the Hockey New Zealand Junior Medical Coordinator.

Key Tasks

·  Physiotherapist to the Hockey New Zealand Academy Hockey Team for camps and tours up to, and including, the 2014 Youth Olympics. Approximate commitment for camps and tours is three to four weeks per year

·  Approximate commitment for coordination role is one day a month.

·  The physiotherapist will complete post-camp and tour reports and be expected to communicate with the Hockey New Zealand medical coordinator (HNZMC), Hockey New Zealand Medical Director (HNZMD), coach and support team as instructed by the HNZMC on injuries, athletes recognised as at risk of injury, and any other concerns the physiotherapist may have of the athlete from a medical perspective.

·  Ensure an individual musculoskeletal screen is completed for non-carded members of the Academy squads. Ensure appropriate pre/rehab exercises are prescribed. The screen will be performed by the HNZ regional provider where the athlete resides.

·  Serve as the focal point for return of medical information for non-carded members of the Academy squad and distribute to the medical director, medical coordinator, Coaches, fitness trainers and local medical network.

·  Collection and analysis of individual athlete injury data throughout the year. Facilitate the flow of information between National Coaches, regional support services, and HNZMC

·  Collate any significant injuries of athletes and discuss with HNZMD and HNZMC for actioning of a treatment plan.

·  Ensure/assist in stocking of medical kits for squad

Key Competencies

Physiotherapist Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential Qualifications

·  Registered member of the New Zealand Society of Physiotherapists (NZSP)

·  Must be a current holder of an Annual Practising Certificate (APC)

Desirable Qualifications

·  Postgraduate physiotherapy qualification, or current postgraduate student

·  Current certification in CPR

Essential Experience

·  A minimum of two years experience working as a physiotherapist with sportspeople

·  Experience working with high performance athletes

·  Experience working with young athletes
