Course Description: The purpose of this course is to study the interactions of matter and energy also changes associated with matter and applications. Topics will include but not be limited to: the nature of science, displacement and velocity, motion, work and energy, momentum and impulse, astronomy and thermodynamics. Also, laboratory activities, which include the use of the scientific methods, measurement, laboratory apparatus, critical thinking, analytical skills and safety, are an integral part of this course.
Course Purpose
1. To apply knowledge of the nature of science to solve problems, and employ safe and effective use of the laboratory technology.
2. To demonstrate understanding and mastery of the interactions of Physics with technology and society.
3. To demonstrate understanding and mastery of Newton’s laws and Thermodynamics.
4. To demonstrate understanding and mastery of the application of the equations of motion.
5. To demonstrate understanding and mastery of waves and sound knowledge.
6. To demonstrate understanding and mastery of electricity and magnetism.
7. To demonstrate understanding and mastery of light and quantum theory.

v Two Note books (one for lecture and one for labs)
v Pencils/Pens (black or blue)

STUDENT’S MUST BRING TEXT BOOK TO CLASS EVRYDAY … FAILUR TO BRING TEXT BOOK TO CLASS WILL RESULT IN FORFEITTURE OF DAILY PARTICIPATION GRADE.
Classroom Expectations/Behavior:
1. During the instruction/lecture portion of the class, each student must give his/her undivided attention to the instructor. Talking without permission will not be tolerated during this part of the class.
2. When time allows, students will be permitted to work on assignments.
3. Food, drinks and chewing gum are NOT allowed in the classroom.
4. Restrooms are to be used before and after class.
5. Refrain from personal grooming during class.
6. Let’s take pride in the way our classroom and school appears. Do not leave paper and trash on the floor or desks. Do not write on the walls or desks.
7. Be familiar with the County’s policies as stated in your “Code of Student Conduct” book.
8. Group activities will be conducted in an orderly fashion.
9. Failure to comply with the policies may result in verbal reprimand, student/teacher conference, parent contact and/or referral to Administration.

Attendance:
o Come to class on time in proper attire with science supplies and ready to work.
Late Assignments:
1. Collected homework is due upon entrance to the class, prior to the tardy bell.
2. Any late assignment, with the exception of projects, will be assessed a 10% deduction and cannot be turned in more than 1 day late.
3. All projects will be assessed a 20% deduction each day the assignment is late.
*Late work will not be accepted after assignments have been graded and returned to the class. *
Scientific Article Analysis
Instructional Focus activities will be used for college preparation, in addition to college-type test questions and test format.
Academic Dishonesty Policy: Cheating, copying, plagiarizing, etc. are inexcusable and will not be tolerated. If you are found to be in violation, you will receive a zero and your parent/guardian will be contacted.
