Psalm of the week / Psalm 134
Behold, bless the Lord all you servants of the Lord
Who by night stand in the house of the Lord!
Lift up your hands in the sanctuary and bless the Lord
The Lord who made Heaven and Earth bless you from Zion! Alleluia.
Personal meditation / It says in Acts 10:2 that Cornelius wasa devoutmanand one who feared God with all his household, who gave alms generously to the people, and prayed to God always. It is clear that Cornelius had a real relationship with God, and wasn’t conformed to the beliefs of those around Him. I should aim to be like Cornelius for many reasons, but especially because God was always on His mind and in his heart.

Lesson / -Today we are going to learn about a very good man named Cornelius.
-Cornelius was also a centurion (A commander in charge of up to 100 soldiers)
-Cornelius was also someone who:
  • Loved God
  • Sharedeverything they had
  • Prayed all the time to God
  • Encouraged His family to love God
-One day, Cornelius saw a vision where an angel of God called to him: “Cornelius!”
-Cornelius replied: “What is it, Lord?”
-The angel told Cornelius: “God has heard your prayers. Send someone to a city calledJoppa, and find someone named Simon Peter. He is living with a well-known manby the sea. Simon Peter, the man you are looking for, he will tell you what to do.
Note: Who is Simon Peter?? One of Christ’s disciples. How many disciples were there?
-Right when the angel left, Cornelius called two of his servants and a soldier who respected him and Cornelius explained everything he had heard to them. (Repeat what angel said)
-Cornelius sent these three to the place called Joppa.
-The very next day, the three people Cornelius had asked traveled to Joppa.
-At the same time, Simon Peter was praying. He became very hungry while praying.
-While we are praying, don’t we often become very distracted, thinking about what we’re going to do after we pray, how our day was, what we need to do tomorrow… etc. Simon Peter experienced this same thing and felt very hungry while praying.
-Simon Peter actually became unconscious!
-While Simon Peter was unconscious, he saw Heaven open…
- (watch only first two minutes)
-Aa voice came to Simon and said,“Rise, Peter; kill and eat.”
-But Peter said, “Not so, Lord! For I have never eaten anything unclean.”
-Simon Peter followed a tradition that said only some foods were good to eat, and others weren’t. God wanted to change this thought of Peter’s and told Him: I made everything, and everything I made is good! Eat any of it!
-God told Peter three times: “What God has made clean, do not call it unholy” (eat any of it!)
-Simon Peter understood that God was trying to tell him something: God wasn’t only talking about food. What he really meant was that God made everyone and we should love everyone equally! No one is better in God’s eyes.. He loves us all equally and we should love all equally as well.
-After this vision, the three men that Cornelius had sent to find Peter had arrived to Joppa.
-Simon Peter told the men “I am the one you are looking for. Why have you come?”
-The men told Peter “An angel of God came to Cornelius and told him to find you.”
-Simon Peter was very welcoming and he invited the men into his house. The next day, Simon Peter traveled with the men back to Joppa.
-When he arrived to Joppa he met Cornelius and told him all about Jesus Christ.
-He told Cornelius that God loves everybody equally and the following :But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him. (Acts 10:35)
-After this, Cornelius and his friends all believed in God and were baptized!
-At end: bring stuffed animals and act out and explain significance of Peter’s vision. Create one corner of altar as ‘Joppa’ and another ‘Caesarea’ by putting up a sign. Videotape if have time..
Conclusion / Memory verse: But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him. (Acts 10:35)
