MVSH Awarded$3.8 Million ASLI Capital Grant Funding for Proposed Sundre Seniors' Supportive Living Facility Project

Mountain View Seniors' Housing (MVSH) has been awarded a $3.8 million Affordable Supportive Living Initiative (ASLI) capital grant from the Province of Alberta. This ASLI Capital grant will enable MVSH to develop a detailed business plan to assess the feasibility of this project intended to provide a much-needed seniors' care and housing facility in Sundre, AB.

“Our community came together over 18 months ago with a resolve to keep our seniors and families together, here in Sundre. The announcement of this ASLI grant brings us one step closer to realizing that goal,” said Mayor Annette Clews, Town of Sundre.

MVSH will review project feasibility prior to moving ahead with the project. Initial plans for the proposed 103-unit facility include a mix of 45 Level one & two lodge units and 40 Level four & four-D supportive living units as well as 18 independent living-style “Life Lease” units. This feasibility review will take up to the next 6 months to complete and at that time the MVSH Board will make a project decision.

The Sundre facility is intended to provide a campus of care with a continuum of care and services. There will be a range of housing options from independent living to full care facility at one campus.

“The campus of care model provides seniors a range of care levels and services, enabling them to age in place,” said MVSH CAO, Sam Smalldon. “It is important to allow seniors to remain in their communities and homes as they wish, while providing adequate access to the care they need and desire."

The new spaces are expected to open by 2016, with Mountain View Seniors’ Housing paying the balance of the estimated $8 million construction costs.

Many thanks for continuing support are due to all those involved. Of special note is the Sundre Seniors’ Care and Housing Committee who requested MVSH Board of Directors to consider a response to their housing and care needs. MVSH is committed to the purpose of developing projects in areas with the greatest need for additional access to affordable supportive living accommodations and services within the County. Based on planning and studies done, the Town of Sundre and area has proven demand to support a seniors’ campus of care project as presented in the ASLI application.
