BRIEF REPORT
March 22, 2000
1. PRINTING OF THREE BOOKS COMPLETED
The printing of Asia's Religions; Chinese Intellectuals and the
Gospel; and Chinese Way of Doing Thingsis finished.
500 copies are now on their way to China Horizon. The remaining
3500 copies per title go to Presbyterian and Reformed Publishing
Company in cental New Jersey.
The 4th title, What is Apologetics?, should be completed in 2 weeks.
2. MANDARIN PIANO-LECTURE PROGRESS
I have received the video and audio masters of CHRISTIANITY AND
WESTERN CULTURE (piano lecture), Mandarin version, from Amor
Chui of Hong Kong. Pending available funds, we can start producing
the tapes, albums, jackets and labels.
3. TRANSLATION PROGRESS
I have translated about 45 pages of the second half of Lit-Sen Chang's
COMPREHENSIVE CHRISTIAN APOLOGETICS. (Note: the first half
of the book is now being printed as WHAT IS APOLOGETICS?.) I have
given a tentative title to this book: NO OTHER FOUNDATION: THE
AUTHORITY OF SCRIPTURE IN APOLOGETICS.
I am recruiting a former editor to again be our editor -- Art Hsu, who did
wonderfully meticulous work. Pending available funds, we can aim to
publish it next year. If not, we can publish it on the internet, on our
website. Funds are on hand for translating and editing.
As part of my ministry at Chinese Bible Church, I have been translating
a course syllabus, "An Introduction to Biblical Counseling." I am currently
in chapter 19 (there are 23 chapters, plus a number of appendices.)
This syllabus will continue to be used at church; also in Singapore this
summer.
4. WEBSITE PROGRESS
Our website is currently receiving about 12 hits a day. Compare that with:
3 hits a day last fall; 7 hits a day, January to mid-February 2000. We
appreciate the diligent work of Rev. Kenneth Goh, who is giving our website
greater visibility through "banner exchanges."
Please note that we have audio segments on our website, including portions
of my piano talk. Upcoming: my sermon on Isaiah 55, "The Power of God's
Word," preached at Mandarin Baptist Church of Los Angeles on January 31.
5. RESEARCH PROGRESS
I continue to pore over Kevin Vanhoozer's dense, very helpful book,
Is There a Meaning In This Text?. His explanation of postmodern
deconstructionism (Jacques Derria) and its roots is solid.
I have also received another installment of research into Liu Xiaofeng
from our research assistant, Mr. Chan Juin-Ming of Singapore.
6. PERSONAL NOTES
(a) Brain work (research, writing, translating) is no lighter, but heavier
than the other parts of my life (speaking, teaching, office routine, etc.)!
I am in constant needof more rest and exercise.
(b) Mildred continues to monitor various aspects of China
Horizon's operations and finance. She is also consultant to
a mission agency in Pasadena, helping with finance/bookkeeping
issues.
(c) Mildred and I met with our prayer partners once each in January,
February, and March. The next prayer meeting is April 3.
