Project Title: v12 PACS Upgrade
Current Environment
The current PACS environment is running 11.4 for the Department of Radiology and 11.3 for Enterprise workstations. v12 is the current version of the PACS software and is required to keep the UVA HS current.
Project Stakeholders
The Department of Radiology is the primary stakeholder for this project. The upgrade impacts the UPG and HSIT as well since it is a technical upgrade to operating system software as well as application software.
Business Need and Impact
The purpose of this project is keep the PACS software current and up to date so that the UVA Department of Radiology can take advantage of enhancements and “bug” fixes to the application. It will allow the UVA HS to maintain a stable PACS environment by keeping current with the current software technology.
Project Goals
· Upgrade servers to Windows 2012 needed to support PACS v12.
· Upgrade Department of Radiology workstations to v12.
· Upgrade Enterprise workstations to 11.4 (they cannot support v12).
Project Evaluation
· PACS will work seamlessly after upgrade with no impact to Department of Radiology or Enterprise access.
· No downtime impact.
Linkage with UVA Health System Key Strategies
Which UVA Health System Key Strategies will this project enhance?
I Care
I Build
I Heal
Describe how this project will enhance the selected Key Strategies.
I Care: Enhances PACS software and improves Department of Radiology affiances which impacts patient satisfaction and employee interaction with patients and patient’s families. Also improves Provider interaction which will result in improved Provider satisfaction and ultimately improved patient care.
I Build: By keeping PACS software current, prevents software from becoming obsolete and reduces the risk of having to implement a future PACS update that is many updates behind that has historically caused many problems with implementation and created service and delivery issues.
I Heal: By keeping the PACS software current, we are providing our patients with the most current technology available to the UVA HS for out PACS software. This improves interaction with patients, Providers and patient’s families. This will have an overall positive impact on patient care and service.
.
Project Timeline
The v12 PACS Upgrade needs to begin no later than October 30th, 2014 and be completed by January 31st, 2015. It is imperative that we complete this project by early February 2015 since there is a scheduled upgrade of Epic every June and the Department of Radiology will nedd to gear up for this upgrade. Also new staff typically starts in spring, early summer of each year and it is in their best interest to have both PACS and Epic stable and up and running for training and integration purposes.
