I. BACKGROUND INFORMATION FOR TEACHERS
Teacher Instructions
Step 1. Before class prepare a handout and a transparency.
Step 2. Before beginning the activity, have students use the names of different locations to guess how the region's physical environment looks: If you were standing in each of these places, what might you see? What might the weather be like? etc. Use the “future of probability” in your questions, and elicit this form in their responses.
Step 3. Place students into pairs and distribute an activity sheet to each pair.
Step 4. Allow students to perform Paso 1 and 2.
Materials
Physical and political maps of the Basque Country
Access to tourist information on websites like http:// www.paisvascoturismo.net/
and http://www.red2000.com/spain/region/r-vasc.html, which has a plethora of practical information
Suggestions
The five-day itinerary in Paso 2 can be an oral presentation or a written report.
Review the future tense and its two main uses: (1) narrative events in future time and (2) expressing probability in the present time frame.

II. STUDENT ACTIVITY HANDOUTS
Handout 1
You and a friend are planning a backpacking trip through Spain this summer. You have decided to spend five days in the Basque Country of Spain. Discuss with your friend the details of your trip to el País Vasco, focusing on the following two areas:
Paso 1. Identify the items you will need to pack. Think about what the weather might be like, given the geography and climate of the region.
Paso 2. Plan your itinerary for the five days in the region. Describe each place you will visit and the activities you plan to do in each location. Indicate each day and the activities on a map of the Basque Country.
