Basketball

Day: Wednesdays (grades 5 & 6) and Thursdays (grades 7 & 8)

Time: 2:30-4 pm

Description:

Beginning in February, students will sign up and join an intramural basketball league.

Book Club

Day: Tuesdays and Wednesdays (occasional field trips)

Time: 7:45-8:15 am

Advisor: Ms. Jorgensen

Location: Media Center

Description:

Students will expand their involvement with genre by creating book trailers, recommendations and artwork for books read as a group. The focus genres include mystery, fantasy and manga/comic books. Students will be using their experiences to write their own novels and interact with authors on field trips.

Drama

Day: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays

Time: 2:30-4 pm (Mondays and Wednesdays); 2:30-3:30 pm (Fridays)

Location: Auditorium/Rm. 036

Description:

Students will audition to participate and perform in the school wide Drama Production of Willy Wonka, Jr. in the Spring.

Friends of Rachel

Day: Thursdays

Time: 2:30-3:30 pm (Grades 7 & 8 only)

Advisor: Ms. Moy

Location: Rm. 228

Description:

The Friends of Rachel Club is an expansion of the Rachel's Challenge Presentation. It will be a creative outlet for students to make Point Webster a more positive and safe school. These peer leaders will create a chain reaction among their peers by spreading awareness and kindness. Small acts of kindness go a long way!

Homework Help

Day: Monday, Full Day Tuesdays and Thursdays

Time: 2:30-3:30 pm

Advisors: Ms. Dennehey

Location: Media Center

Description:

Students will receive assistance with their homework assignments in all subject areas. Students will be able to utilize the computers in the Media Center for homework that requires internet and word processing.

Math Homework Club

Day: Mondays and (Thursdays starting in February)

Time: 2:30-3:30 pm

Advisor: Ms. Hendrickson

Location: Rm. 233

Description:

Students from all grades may come to Math Homework Club to seek assistance on their Math homework or to receive extra help with topics they are struggling in. Students may receive help on homework in other subject areas, but priority will be given to those who need Math help first.

Point Newspaper Club

Day: Full Day Tuesdays

Time: 2:30-4 pm

Advisor: Ms. Brooks and Mrs. Yohe

Location: Media Center

Description:

Point’s Newspaper Club will meet on full day Tuesdays. Students, with the help of advisors Mrs. Yohe and Ms. Brooks, will create a monthly newspaper for the school that highlights activities, sporting events, and includes both student and teacher interviews. Students on the newspaper staff will learn important writing, editing and publishing skills.

Point Painters

Day: Mondays

Description:

Point Painters is an after school program where students focus on a variety of projects that include drawing, painting, sculpting and more. Art club provides a supportive and fun environment for children to develop creativity, stretch their imagination, and learn art concepts and techniques. During Point Painters students will further their creativity by designing, constructing, and building projects both for the school and for themselves.

Robotics

Day: Wednesdays (Grades 6-8 only)

Time: 2:30-4 pm

Description:

Lego Robotics is an after school program open to students in grades 6, 7 & 8. Each week students will design a Lego robot and program it using the Lego Mindstorm NXT kit. In addition to using engineering and technological skills, team members will also research and create a solution to a world problem. The Point Robotics team will compete in the First Lego League Qualifier competition against 45 other schools in eastern Massachusetts. Students will compete in robot missions, programming, robot design and in a project presentation. The challenge for this year is titled “Trash Trek". Additional days may be added as we get closer to the competition.

Science Club

Day: Thursdays (Gr. 7 & 8 students only)

Time: 2:30-3:30 pm

Advisor: Ms. Kaye

Description:

A place to learn the ins and outs of science fair prep. We will meet after school on Thursdays from 2:30-3:30 through April to research, prepare, and test our science fair ideas. April-June students will meet to participate in hands-on labs and experiments that enrich and support the curriculum. These labs are labs that would not typically be covered in school. Science fair supplies are supplied by students, post science fair labs are supplied by Ms. Kaye.

Step up to the Plate

Day: Wednesdays

Time: 2:30-4 pm

Advisor: Mrs. MacFarlane and Ms. Moy

Location: Room 226

Description:

This after-school program will focus on organizational skills, math, reading comprehension, and writing. It will be available to students who are currently on an Individual Education Plan (IEP), 504s or an ICAP. Step up to the Plate will teach students new skills and reinforce skills previously learned.

Eighth grade students will meet to discuss, plan, organize and implement school-wide events for Point Webster Middle School and the Quincy Point Community.

Yearbook

Day: Wednesdays (Gr. 8 students only)

Time: 2:30-4 pm

Advisor: Mrs. Velez

Location: Media Center Computer Lab

Description:

Interested in photography? Graphic web design? Are you creative? Then yearbook is the club for you! Students will take pictures and design pages for the Point Webster Middle School yearbook this year! Each student will be assigned their own page to design and will use an online web tool to create it. The yearbook will be printed towards the end of the year for the whole school to see! Please see Mrs. Velez in room 217 with any questions. Space is limited!! Only the first 15 students to return their forms will be accepted into the club!

Wake up and Walk

Day: Monday-Friday

Time: 7:45-8:15 am

Advisor: Mrs. Campbell

Location: Gymnasium

Description:

Students will meet each morning to start the day with a little exercise as they prepare for school by walking the gymnasium and at times throughout the school.

Please be sure your child listens to announcements for sign-ups. Each activity will require a permission form to be filled out by a parent/guardian.
