Why does the Satellite IP Modem have an integral GPS receiver and what is it used for?

The Regional BGAN network requires the Modem to determine its GPS location and report that information to the network. This information can be used to verify that the Modem is in the correct spot beam, and to allow or decline service based on the Modem position for a variety of reasons. It is critical for the integral GPS antenna to have a clear view of the sky for the Modem to determine its location.
