Job Summary

Responsible for the application of accounting principles, theories, concepts, and practices to a variety of accounting issues and transactions in order to provide accounting documentation, and reports that accurately reflect the Association’s current and projected financial position; provides guidance to lower level accounting professionals.

Job Specifications

  • Requires a BBA in finance, accounting or related field.
  • CPA designation preferred.
  • Requires five or more years general accounting experience.
  • Requires two to three years office management/building operations experience.
  • Requires a thorough knowledge of the fundamental theories, doctrines, systems, principles, practices and terminology of accountancy.
  • Requires an understanding of basic employment law.
  • Must be PC literate with knowledge of computerized bookkeeping software, spreadsheet and word processing software; spreadsheet skills must be sufficient to enable incumbent to quantify and illustrate routine financial reports, statements, and/or projections.
  • Requires excellent organizational, interpersonal, communications and management skills.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Provides guidance to lower level accounting professionals.

Physical and Mental Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to sit, talk, and listen for extended periods of time. The employee will be required to move about periodically. The employee must have the ability to operate a personal computer and have the ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken and written word. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee may be required to lift or move 10+ pounds.

Mental requirements include the ability to read, write, concentrate, reason, analyze, evaluate, problem solve, multi-task and perform financial/mathematical calculations.

Working Conditions

The noise level in the primary work environment is usually moderate i.e., business office with computer printer, and light traffic. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are not hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc.

Essential Functions

(1) Analyzes financial information, makes journal entries and determines the most effective means of handling accounting transactions.

(2)Prepares and maintains accounting records for the Association, including but not limited to accounts receivables, accounts payable, cash disbursements,journal entries for transactions not involving cash receipts or disbursements, “prepared by client” schedules, accounting records for the annual audit and paperwork which supports all entries to the Association’s accounting journals, ledgers, etc.

(3)Prepares deposits for check and cash payments received at headquarters.

(4)Records deposits (check and credit card receipts) from all sources.

(5) Performs reconcilements of accounting records to general ledger. Reconcilements pertain to data entry from IMIS, credit card receipts, cash receipts, bank deposits, etc.

(6)Prepares financial statements and other accounting reports which accurately reflect the financial position of the Association.

(7)Reviews accounting documents for accuracy, clarity, and compliance with Association policies and procedures, accounting standards and relevant laws and regulations.

(8) Administers the accounts payable function to include: (a) entering approved invoices into the AP system (b) preparing checks for invoice payments (c) preparing checks and invoices for EVP approval (d) disbursing approved and signed checks.

(9) Serves as accounting advisor to senior management.

(10) Provides guidance and assistance to lower level professional accounting positions.

(11)Performs additional tasks or responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Vice President.
