Beginner Weaving Instructor

Purpose
The instructor will teach beginnng level course in weaving
Position Description
- Direct students and provide guidance in a classroom setting
- Give instructions, provide demonstrations, present lectures and show examples of basic weave structures
- Coordinate with Class Manager to organize looms, classroom schedule. This may include opening and closing the building.
- Attend Open House and Instructor Meeting held annually
- Follow classroom and EWG policies and procedures
- Demonstrates effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Have basic computer knowledge, email, create handouts, etc.
- Proven basic weaving skills
- Involved in fibre arts community
- Experience in adult education an asset
Responsibilities
- Following EWG syllabus, prepare and implement beginner weaving class for 6-8 students
- Plan and prepare equipment, ie looms, warps, and materials for a beginner level weaving class.
- Contact students prior to class either by phone or email
- Purchase necessary materials for class; communicate expenses to Class Manager and submit receipts to EWG treasurer for expenses incurred
- Prepare work space before and after class; ie, open building, ensure work space is clean, building is locked with alarm set at end of class.
- Other related duties
Minimum Qualifications:
- Masters level 1 Weaving, completed or in progress or similar training
- Able to effectively manage and engage 6-8 adult students
- At least 2 years teaching experience or relevant training
- Professional career development through a combination of studio, classroom and/or workshop experiences in the weaving field
- Experience with classroom activities and diverse learning styles
- Excellent communication skills
- Must be able to teach weekends, either Saturday or Sunday classes
Accountability and Evaluation
Fibre Arts instructors are accountable to the Classes Manager

Applications will be reviewed and selected applicants will be interviewed by the Classes Manager and hiring committee.
At the time of the interview candidates should bring a portfolio of work, with a developed lesson plan listing course objectives and class outline, and contact information of three references.
