Whilst trends in mortality from circulatory disease and cancer in East Cambridgeshire and Fenland are positive, ways of analysing these trends in the areas of the Primary Care Trust with the worst health and socio-economic deprivation indicators should be developed

Local health services should work to understand the health promotion initiatives already taking place in local schools, and provide additional support when appropriate

The Primary Care Trust should implement a Sexual Health Strategy that increases local access to sexual health advice, screening, treatment and family planning services

The Primary Care Trust and local partner organisations should act to address health inequalities by:

·  responding to community needs as expressed in evolving parish action plans across Fenland

·  mainstreaming learning from the South Fenland Surestart throughout the Primary Care Trust area, in line with recommendations from the Children’s National Service Framework and Cambridgeshire Preventive Strategy

·  working with Fen Boarder Sure Start and the Children & Young Peoples Strategic Partnership to improve services for children and young people[*]

·  implementing practical initiatives to increase access to health services for Travellers, migrant workers and homeless people

East Cambridgeshire and Fenland Local Strategic Partnerships should continue to monitor local road traffic accident death rates. All local agencies need to work together to support initiatives to reduce road accidents for which there is demonstrable evidence of effectiveness

Joint action should be taken to implement the findings from the Cambridgeshire ACRE co-ordinated research on local transport and access issues released in February 2005. This should include thinking creatively about bringing services and information to communities and households so that people can continue to live in supported small communities and not be disadvantaged through the distance they live from larger health care facilities
