IT/Website update: Phone conference with Rick Gaer, Web consultant. / Goal is to simplify access to information and expand ways of communication. Yahoo site is too cumbersome with sign on, documents not easily accessible. Only 50% of current NP/PA/CNM are Yahoo Group members. Can we create a members only area on the Website?
Rick proposes using out big email list. Those on the list will get an email with log in info. Then people will create a login and PW. In the Members only area, will be able to email, post files, have a forum area. Site will be generic, but functional.
Costs: 2-4 hours of set up time at $40/hr.
PPG will have to monitor whom can sign join. Suggest designating those who can upload files (likely to leadership group). / PPG voted to go ahead with creating members only area on Website.
Judy to ask clarifications: how to control dissemination of “out of office emails.
Union Update: Robert Hester, David Flemming Local 1021 / Election;
Prop D: Adachi. Also known as “the son of prop B”. Supported by same billionaire who attach Wisconsin public sector workers. Will affect all city workers, including teachers. The % paid toward retirement increases with amount earned. Excludes shift differentials etc from counting towards retirement (effects nurse!). Caps at $160K.
PROP C: 21 unions & city. In 1990’s union/city negotiated city paying the 7.5% employee contribution. Pension lost 4 billion in 2008. Although current earnings are 14-18%, there is still a “hole” in the Pension Fund. Prop C fills the hole over 5-10years.
Changes: New employee-3 year averaging (instead of 1 year); Vesting-new employee can’t keep $ in the city, must take service retirement; lower wage earners will pay less; Caps at 85% of earnings=250K; retiree health: in 2016 will pay 0/25% to cover costs.
No changes will take place prior to end of contract June 2012
CANDIDATES: union strongly supports Mirakarimi for Sheriff.
Contract Negotiations:
Safety negotiated with City in June. They are taking their whole raise & paying increased retirement contribution NOW, and negotiated a 1-year extension to contract.
City and RN Union will be meeting soon. City likely to ask for to resend 8% raise due in April 2012.
Temp exempt NP: Level 3 grievance is waiting for response; Since As needed NP get no premium pay, grievance states shift, weekend differential, premium pay, sonority within unit do apply.
Re-credentialing: As of last contract, NP/CNM can use out continuing ed reimbursement to pay for ANCC or other credentialing body. / Volunteer Mobilization for November election. Go with a friend!
Sign up to phone bank, precinct walk for Prop C (no on D), and candidates. Contact Gabriel Haaland at 415-848-3628, gabriel.haaland @seiu1021.org

Conference planning: We reviewed Paul’s planning email.

/ Last minute speaker change:
In regards to a replacement for the Street Drug Topic There are two possibilities 1) Matt Tierney, NP who is the Director of OBIC 552-6242. The other alternative may be Deb Logan Director OBOT? Pager 327-4207. I also called Ed Lord Pain Svc Pharmacist at SFGH. He and Dr. Brody don't really get into lectures on Street Drugs, so that is probably not an avenue, but Ed Lor also thought that Matt Tierney would be a good option.
I will let you all decide who wants to contact these folks, as it would keep with continuity in conference planning.
Just a bit of feedback from the PPG business meeting today re: alternatives to fill time if a substitute speaker isn't avail. Mary mentioned Pricilla Abercrombie and she emailed info on that. Someone else mentioned an update from the E-Referral gurus is always appreciated to the larger population.... The group liked the idea of interactive discussions something along the lines of what Nancy O had mentioned. Or allowing providers to introduce themselves and say where they work. One concern was that an informal loose discussion may not be so suitable at the very end of the day as folks my take off unless the time is specifically structured.
There were concerns about merging the PA/NP Union Reps over lunchtime. Folks mentioned that the PA rep sometimes needs only around 10 minutes and that Ed will fill all the remaining time if allowed. This may cut into a specific Lunch break when many attendees need to check in with work, take time to make calls, etc. Those at the meeting today thought that 45 minutes is an appropriate allowance to eat/socialize.
Business meeting:
Need Chair for the Conference business meeting.
  1. Election of Officers: Treasurer to take Mary’s slot. Mary is willing to continue as Acting Chair, and wants someone to step in an train as co-chair who will then train the next co-chair; Also need secretary
  2. Leadership workshop: do we want a follow up session with Marc Lesser or with another type of training.
  3. CIDP/Credentialing update
  4. Union update
  5. Calendar for next year’s meeting

CIDP/credentialing update

/ Mary new CIDP member as of September 2011.
  1. California code of regulations requires notification of patients when PA is providing care. CIDP recommends not singling out PA. Advocates for sign in waiting room indicating all types of potential providers
  2. Department wide SP will be reformatted as they are up for renewal. Will be a master SP that covers all practice sites and all the protocols in the department. NP/PA/CNM then choose the protocols they will be practicing under. E.g. OB/GYN will include Options, L&D, 5M, 6C.
  3. RN s that do medical screening (i.e.triage) must practice under an SP. Current SP for Medical screening for RN exist in FHC, Medicine, Urgent Care.
  4. Credential’s report: Waive (POC) testing approved. Will be added to SP’s as up for renewal.
Colposcopy clarification for provider with outside training/experience for shorter proctoring period.
MD must proctor MD (NP/PA may not proctor MD). / Get copy of RN Medical screening SP for Carol Bird.
