Welcome to American History! I am excited about the opportunity to get to know you, and looking forward to a happy and productive school year. U.S. History is designed to be challenging but not impossible. Many strategies will be incorporated to make this classinformational and fun, including group work, historical reenactments, partner readings, and classroom discussions. I look forward to learning about you and guiding your scholastic progress.

Three goals I have for this seventh grade class are:

1)Develop academic strategies that will foster lifelong, independent learners.

2)Ensure that all students successfully meet or exceed Pennsylvania Social Studies Standards and Common Core Standards.

3)Acquire skills to successfully transition to eighth grade and high school.

Social Studies Supply List:

  1. A positive attitude.
  2. A pleasant voice.
  3. Restrained feet.
  4. Productive hands.
  5. An inquiring mind.
  6. Equipment to complete your lessons: pencils, colored pencils, highlighters, a notebook/journal, text book cover and a section in your binder for social studies.
  7. Assignments due

Procedures:

  • Arrive to class on-time and prepared.
  • Begin class with the “Do-Now” Activity inside you journal.
  • Copy weekly homework down in your assignment book as shown on the front board. More details are provided on the teacher webpage.
  • Participate and ask appropriate and insightful questions daily.
  • Place proper headings on all assignments: Name, Date, class period, and title.
  • Follow all directions
  • Wait for my signal to pack up, not for the bell.
  • If you need to use the bathroom, you must sign out in your assignment book as well as the classroom sign out sheet.

Homework: Homework will be assigned an average of three nights a week. Weekly homeworkwill be recorded in the assignment book. It is my hope that the homework will be meaningful and build specific social studies skills. Assignments will account for 10% of your grade. Homework that is late will be taken the next day for half credit up until the last quarter.

Grades:Your score will be based on a total point percentage scale.

Students are expected to check HAC (Home Access Center) on a regular basis. For questions about grades or an assignment, be sure to schedule a meeting time for after school help, I will provide the pass.

Absence: If a student is absent, it is his/her responsibility to find out what material was missed. A great way to stay current with class is to review the teacher web pages, which are updated regularly. There is a location in the back of the room for absentees in need of hand-outs (inside folders of the week) and assignment due dates. If a quiz or test is given when you are out, make arrangements with the teacher to make it up within the week.

Sports and extracurricular activities: Remaining eligible is up to YOU, if you would like to discuss your grade or need my assistance in anyway please make an appointment to stay after school on help days.
