PRESENT: CARTER, G. WEBSTER, BOLEN, KOESLIN, HAGMANN, WATKINS, THIGPEN, PULLEY, PALMER, MUSSER, SMITH, HANDY, OLDHAM, RICHARDSON, LOCKLEAR, STARBUCK

  • GLOBALLY COMPETITIVE STUDENTS:
  • Select an “Issue to Norm for 3rd quarter – Single school culture addresses inconsistencies and mixed messages regarding policies
  • Issues considered: dress code, food in classrooms, earphones
  • Earphone policy selected to norm, since it is a safety issue.
  • A statement regarding new policy will be drafted for students, parents and staff, and will be read in all classes for three days before implementation.
  • Upon implementation of new policy staff will confiscate earphones from student on 1st offense and issue a D1. Envelopes will be provided.
  • All teachers are expected to enforce this policy, and failure to enforce will be reflected in faculty evaluations.
  • Student Motivation/Tutoring
  • Ideas for student incentives for motivation were discussed (parties, snacks, posters).
  • A tutoring schedule must be established in writing.
  • Funding is available for tutoring and it is not being used.
  • Ideas for tutoring were discussed.
  • PowerLunch – extending lunch for ½ hour to provide time for tutoring within the school day
  • Teachers reteaching during planning periods
  • Peer Tutoring
  • Tutoring subcommittee was formed. Members include
  • Richardson, Thigpen, Watkins, Starbuck, Hagmann, Webster
  • 21st CENTURY PERSONNEL
  • Ms. Richardson encouraged faculty to think of questions and qualities/qualifications for the new principal search committee to consider
  • SAFE AND CARING SCHOOLS
  • Communication
  • Not all students are hearing morning and afternoon announcements because they are either at the CareerCenter, or there is too much talking/noise when announcements are made.
  • Recommendations:
  • Have printed announcements available for CareerCenter students to see when they sign in.
  • Post announcements on the website
  • 21st CENTURY SYSTEMS
  • Establishment of Interclub Council (ICC)
  • Council will provide a portal to set parameters for establishment of new clubs, a centralized place to organize and keep track of all club activities and meetings
  • All students involved in clubs will pay $1 to the ICC, which will go toward homecoming
  • FCCLA not part of ICC
  • Council will consist of a student representative from each club
  • Vice President of Student Council will serve as head of ICC
  • ICC will meet once a quarter
  • Ms. Carter has agreed to run the ICC and will gather more detailed information
  • COLLABORATIVE PARTNERSHIPS
  • Parent Involvement
  • Ideas to involve parents in student education were discussed.
  • Parent information night to inform parents on curriculum, testing, etc.
  • Having parent nights in community venues may be more accessible and help parents feel more comfortable to come rather than holding it on campus
