bishop’s 2017 christmas offering application approaching

INUMC is currently accepting grant request applications for the 2017 Bishop’s Offering for Children season. Through the generous contributions of United Methodists across Indiana, the BCO program provides grants to local organizations that are committed to improving the lives of children and youth in need. Funds are geared to support a variety of community-centered projects for children, from promoting art in the inner city and improving educational standards, to programs that combat child hunger and instillhealthy eating habits by cultivating community gardens. Grants are provided yearly, and applicants are required to apply each year. The deadline for submission isFebruary 28. Student Leadership Academy – Summer Session
July 9-21, 2017 / University of Indianapolis
The Student Leadership Academy-Summer Session is a 12 day event designed with one primary purpose in mind: to help high school students (including 2017 graduates) discern where God is calling them to put their skills, passions, and talents to work in the world, particularly in the work of the Church. If you feel like God is calling you or a young person you know to work for the Church in any way, we encourage you to learn more.

The 2017 Indiana Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church will be in sessionThursday, June 8 to Saturday, June 10 at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis. This year's theme is Together: We. Are. More., based on the scripture passage found in Ephesians 4:4-6 -
"You were all called to travel on the same road and in the same direction, so stay together, both outwardly and inwardly. You have one Master, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who rules over all, works through all, and is present in all. Everything you are and think and do is permeated with Oneness." Friday, May 12, 2017 at 2 p.m. EDT concludes with dinner (pastors are expected, spouses are invited).
Saturday, May 13, 2017, at Noon EDT (Pastors spouses, & S/PPRC Chair or Representative)
All clergy entering new appointments in 2017 should register themselves and indicate if their spouse will attend and how many SPRC members will attend on Saturday. There is no cost to attend, however, registration is required in order to have materials and meals available for all.
Childcare is available and must be reserved during the registration process. Walk-in child care requests cannot be accommodated.
Attendance at this seminar is REQUIRED for all pastors who will be moving to a new full-time appointment.

excellence in clergy leadership scholarship

The General Board of Higher Education and Ministry (GBHEM) recently announced the creation of a new scholarship for seminary students. For those students at United Methodist seminaries who are pursuing candidacy or are certified candidates in the Indiana Conference can apply for a scholarship worth up to $12,500. There are two scholarships to be awarded in 2017 & 2018. Please pass this information on to those students in your district.
Those interested in the Excellence in Clergy Leadership Scholarship may apply with the Office of Loans and Scholarships at Scholarship applications will be open between January 3 and March 1 of each year. Interested students should indicate that they are applying for the "Excellence in Clergy Leadership Scholarship" on the first page of the application.

Central United Methodist Church in Richmond, Indiana is currently seeking an energetic, committed Christian to assume a full-time (35‐40 hours per week, as needed) position as Director of Children’s Christian Education. The position is salaried (up to $35,000) commensurate with skills and experience. This role requires exceptional people skills and a passion for helping connect children and families to Jesus. Are you gifted for Certified Lay Ministry?
Perhaps you have considered being more involved in mission and ministry in the past, but wanted to remain in the community where you live as a faithful servant. Perhaps you are the one that others look toward to share your faith story. Perhaps you are not confident of the service to which God is calling yet know that God has a hold on your life. Have you ever asked yourself: “Could God be calling me to be a leader in mission and ministry?” Every Christian is called to ministry no matter their context. If you have identified with any of these, you might be a good fit for the Certified Lay Minister program.
The Certified Lay Minister is called and equipped to conduct public worship, care for the congregation, assist in program leadership, develop new and existing faith communities, preach the Word, lead small groups or establish community outreach ministries as part of a ministry team with the supervision and support of a clergyperson. It is a position designed to enhance the quality of ministry and ability of small membership churches, team ministry in larger membership churches, and ministry in other settings to meet the spiritual and temporal needs of a constantly changing world. (Paragraph 268, Book of Discipline, United Methodist Church).
Orientation is March 11, 2017 and the Retreat is April 20-22, 2017

Vital Congregations/GCFA will be using inumc.org email addresses for pastors exclusively. So now your inumc.org email is a necessity. Once activated you can have it forwarded to your personal email address. Eventually this will be the only email address used by the District as well. Carla (877-781-6706) at the Conference Center will be happy to help you if you experience problems.

Greensboro UMC – The Greensboro United Methodist Church will be the host site for a 6k. This is around 3.72 miles and will be a walk/run event. This is sponsored by World Vision and the purpose is to raise awareness and funds for people in Africa. 6k is an average distance many people walk to get clean water.
