MCR MINI-UPDATE AUGUST 2012

Fellow registrars,

It has been another hot dry month in central Missouri! Here are some items I want to pass along this month:

MCR NEWS

Conversion of Web Plus

MCR is working on the conversion of Web Plus this week. We will send a blast email when it is open to accept your cases again.

Live Meetings

Kudos to Angela for her creative use of technology to move us beyond “death by powerpoint” standard slide presentations! Although we do test the live demos, etc. in advance, technical difficulties can occur when using these new tools. Thanks for bearing with us as we try to make educational sessions as engaging and effective as possible.

Several of you have encouraged us to get NCRA pre-approval of our live meeting sessions so that you can obtain CE credits for attending. Remember that sessions do not have to be pre-approved for you to list them when you report your hours. In addition, getting pre-approval for some of the Live Meeting sessions continues to be on our “wish list” of services that we may offer to you in the future when resources allow.

August Live Meeting

Wednesday August 8th at 10 am, I will present a Live Meeting on the topic “Tips for Using CSv2.04”. We will review the (thankfully minor) changes and clarifications to the latest version of Collaborative Staging that you will use with cases diagnosed in 2012. Contact Shari to register:

STANDARD SETTER NEWS

FORDS 2012 Updated 6/29/12

The 2012 FORDS Manual has been updated to correct some errors that had been identified. The changes are listed in Appendix C of the manual with the date 6/29/2012. Those that may affect coding involve the fields: Type of Multiple Tumors and Multiplicity Counter. These are fields MCR does not require; if you report data to the CoC, please check FORDS for details. In the Class of Case explanation, the second example displayed as code 00 and has been corrected to 13. In the Radiation/Surgery Sequence and Systemic/Surgery Sequence fields code 4 has been reworded to indicate at least one course before and at least one course after surgery. To download this version (7/3/12) of the manual go to http://www.facs.org/cancer/coc/fords/fords-2012c.pdf. The MCR Abstract Code Manual is being updated accordingly.

Six New Videos on AJCC YouTube Channel

Six new videos on Collaborative Stage (CS) were recently added to the AJCC YouTube Channel.

The most recent video is, Testis: Calculating the LDH Range for SSF 10 and SSF 16. The video explains how to calculate the "N" to determine whether the LDH is S0, S1, S2, or S3. MCR does ask you to report SSF 16 as available, so this video may be helpful to you.

Five of the new presentations focus on the often confusing topic of Coding Neoadjuvant Therapy. The first of these clarifies the definition and purpose, while the remaining four go into depth on situations with various combinations of response/no response and known/unknown staging.

CS Webinars

There are seven Collaborative Stage webinars still available at the AJCC Education Portal (http://eo2.commpartners.com/users/acs/archived_cs.php) for complimentary viewing to the entire registry community! These seven webinars were developed and presented by some of the leaders in the field. The webinars are available for viewing 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Topics include:

·  CS 101

·  Eval Codes Explanations and Examples

·  Part 1 Section 1 Coding Instructions: Overview and Update

·  Part 1 Section II Coding Instructions: Site Specific Factors and Molecular Markers

·  Site Specific Schemas: Bladder, Kidney and Testis

·  Coding Factoids and FAQs

·  Site Specific Factors: Stomach and Esophagus and Myeloma

The CS webinars are free; however, creation of an account to view the webinars is necessary for new users. If you have previously viewed an AJCC or CoC webinar through the CommPartners Education Portal you can begin viewing the presentations immediately by adding the CS webinars to your cart. For technical issues, such as login or account creation, contact CommPartners directly at . Do keep in mind that these were designed for use with CS 2.03, so there may be slight changes in CS v2.04 which are not covered.
