Lemur’s Log

Week ending 9/6/13

MATH: The focus this week has continued with multiplication. Next week, we will still be working with arrays and partial product boxes to hopefully begin double digit by double digit multiplication. There will be a test on multiplication on Thurs., Sept. 12.

As mentioned at Open House, please continue to practice multiplication facts with your child. This can be accomplished through their 5 nights/week work on IXL.

LANGUAGE ARTS: We are continuing to build stamina for reading to self and reading to someone. This coming week, the students will locate main ideas and details, finding evidence in a variety of texts to support their statements.

Student reading logs are due to me each day their assigned numbers are designated.

This past week, we completed our work with quotations. Next week, the morning work will revisit some familiar spelling patterns, especially plurals. The morning work quiz will be administered on Friday mornings.

Social Studies: Mapping skills are our current focus. We should be able to finish up the requirements for this unit by Friday of the upcoming week. I will be giving out a study guide sometime this week. If all goes as planned, the Jeopardy Review game will be next Tues., 9/17, and the test will be Wed., 9/18.

If you are reading this and can help us with a culminating activity on mapping, PLEASE CONTACT ME BY E-mail. We will be in need of 5 parent volunteers next Mon., 9/16, from 12:45 – 2:00. The students will be decorating cake maps to show all the geographic features about which they have been learning. In addition, we will need 5 cakes to be baked and sent in that morning. The size needed is 9x12” (disposable) pan. We will also be in need of large bags of M & M’s, Hershey’s Kisses, Chocolate Chips, Blue and Multicolored Sprinkles, and thin red licorice. Please contact me if you can provide any of these items we need. THANK YOU in advance.

FAST Programs: If your child is going to attend any FAST program, they must go to ASP. Therefore, your child must be enrolled in ASP. YOU DO NOT NEED TO SEND IN A NOTE ABOUT ATTENDANCE AT FAST PROGRAMS AS YOUR CHILD’S ATTENDANCE AT ASP IS THEIR TRANSPORTATION CHANGE.

SNACK PARENTS: For next Friday, 9/13, the Carruthers family will be Snack family; for 9/20, the Chen family; and for 9/27, the Dusack family. Please, NO NUTS! !

HELPER PARENT: For next Thursday, 9/12, helper parent will be Lara Durst; for 9/19 (or 20th) it will be Inessa Plavnik; and for 9/26, it will be Bonnie Kolesar.
