A Volunteer Coordinator
Transition Village Wallan (TVW) is a local charity proposing to build 7 Sleeping Cabins to provide safe, supported, short to medium term accommodation for people who are homeless, or at risk of homelessness, in the Shire of Mitchell.

TVW is based on community caring for community. We need an active Volunteer Coordinator to achieve our goals of achieving community support for the organisation and our Village Residents.

Responsibilities include:

  • Development of Policy and Procedures relating to volunteers in TVW, with input from other TVW members
  • Will ensure maintenance of all appropriate documentation of the work done by the work unit.
  • Development of volunteer induction materials including a mission statement and organisation chart.
  • Recruitment, selection and placement of volunteers.
  • Understanding the professional and personal needs of each volunteer.
  • Provision of evaluation and feedback to the volunteer
  • Inclusion of volunteers in the social activities of the organisation.
  • Provision of necessary training materials and courses.
  • Recognition and reward for volunteer effort.
  • Attending General Committee meetings with a monthly report
  • Attending training and planning workshops with the Executive Committee

Reporting to:

Coordinators:

  • Will be the lead member of a defined work unit.
  • Will be an automatic member of the Executive Committee
  • Reports directly to CEO and the Executive committee
  • Will attend the monthly meeting with entire Exec Committee and give a report of activities and financials.
  • Will attend one meeting per month with CEO, or as needed/requested.
  • Will schedule meetings with members of the work unit as needed
  • Will attend all workshops and strategic planning meetings with the Exec. Committee and general membership
  • Will follow all charter documents for TVW
  • May nominate a 2IC to share the role and knowledge.

Duration of the Position:

Initially from the date of acceptance by the Executive Committee until the next AGM. Then for a 2 year period if the nomination is approved at the AGM.

Time commitment:

Flexible, but 2-3 hours per week is a suggested time allowance. This may vary with the needs of current activities.

Workplace:

Flexible. Coordinators may need to meet prospective volunteers externally, attend meetings and training events.

Skills required;

The top requirement is a liking for people and the desire to build a strong and resilient local community, based on sustainability principles.

Many of our committee members are likewise inexperienced with their committee roles. It is a principle of TVW that we develop our committee to be able to take on these extended activities.

If you have no previous experience you will need to undertake home education in the areas required to help you fulfil your roles. Support from the CEO and Executive Committee is available at all times.
