INDUSTRIAL ORGANISING CONFERENCE 2016.

The Assistant General Secretary Mick Lynch Addressed Conference.

And give his Lead Officers and Credit Union reports.

Mick started by saying how pleased he is to be the lead officer for this conference. Then continued by stating the difference between how the conference was run and the changes the new rules will make to the running of conference in the future.

Mick went through the new role of the Liaison committee members, and then asked the questions, have we a charter, do we need a web or social media presence, what sort of reforms do we need to increase the membership of this sector.

Mick commented on the requirement or possibility of more communication between the Conference Executive and Liaison Committees and the union’s National Executive Committee.

Then asked the question do the Officer members of this conference require training, education and coaching as well as the reps in the work place. Mick stated it may be a good idea to meet the members in there own mess room taking a Lead Officer or Regional Organiser with then, the hardest part will be getting permission from the employers.

Mick spoke on the companies this union as negotiation agreements with, Freightliner as a very well organised rep and activist set up, but the union is not so good with UPS and DHL, this is a area the Liaison committee can assist to put right, meet the membersin the workplace and encouragemore members to be activists and reps, and form a chain ofcommunication to help make UPS and DHL as well organised as Freightliner.

Before we can achieve the above we need a list of locations covered by negotiation agreements with the employers, and the number of members in these locations.

Mick continued by stating the Lead Officers of DHL and UPS could organise the reps to attend a Liaison meeting, not only getting to see the union working but getting involved.

Mick finished by saying the first meeting will be to bring together all the bullet points and chop then up into bits, manageable pieces to work on as a committee, working together to bring more members to the union and next years conference.

Mick then took questions from the floor.

Mick Lynch then gave the RMT Credit Union Ltd report.

He emphasising how easier it is for members, and spouses, partners and children to join, the back page of RMT news.

Mick continued by going through the additional benefits you would get if more members and there partners joined.

It’s the members that decide the interest rates and dividend rates, the credit union is not a bank, it is a Mutual Society, and it’s the members that run the RMT Credit Union.

Mick then took questions from the floor.

Members from the welcoming committee addressed Conference.

The President of this union Shane Hoyle and Mat Morris for Portsmouth Branch visited the conference and welcomed this conference by speaking about their City of Portsmouth.

Andy Budd from the National Executives Council gave the NECReports.

Andy went through the resolutions from last year’s Conference and the

General Grades Committee / Council of Executives decisions. Andy then answered questions from the floor.
